Customers say: Quality work

"My husband and I are very pleased with the work Kenny Hunt and his assistant did on our backyard patio. He is prompt, professional and neat. He took great care to see that our lawn was not damaged and cleaned up the work area nicely. His quote was exactly what we paid. He's a hard worker and does an excellent job. We highly recommend Kenny and would hire him again if needed."

Small jobs welcome

"Sebastian & Ableardo and crew were wonderful they were by far the most affordable. They gave me a bid to replace my old concrete patio and fix a crack sidewalk which I ended up having them replace another part of my sidewalk it became a bigger job then expected, when I had a question Sebastian got back to me right away. They had the job done in 2 1/2 days in this heat. I would highly recommend them my dad is going to call them I already passed there business cards out to some friends. Thank you Q&M LLC"

"We had a concrete slab poured for a 8’x12’ shed. Al was very responsive and they were able to get the job done quickly, which was very nice since we had a target date to complete our project. Very fair price and they did all the dirt backfill and leveling. I came home from work and Al was even sweeping our driveway! Great work and I’d highly recommend them."

"One screw type pier installed. 2 workers hand dug hole below bottom of foundation. Cleaned out under foundation for platform. Although foundation was deeper than I thought, the hole was done much better and quicker than I envisioned. Pier was screwed at bottom of hole with a hydraulic motor. Once limit on hydraulic pressure was reached, the pier was cut at proper level, platform installed, and cracked section of foundation was raised with a hydraulic jack. Crack in stonework closed up nicely without going too far and creating additional cracks. Workers had 5 and 15 years experience doing this work. Very professional and did a very nice job every step of the way. Note that I (homeowner) chose to move and reinstall landscaping stones and gutter drain. Also, tuckpointing/repairing the cracks was not included in the quote. I plan to do that myself at a later date."

"S&M Concrete did an excellent job on my requested job, with minimal involvement by me.  I spoke to them on the phone and let them know what I wanted (rebuilding of front steps), and S&M dropped off a bid in my mailbox, which I accepted. <br /> I appreciated the ease of process - I explained what I wanted, got a hassle-free quote, and when I went ahead, the job was done in an excellent way.  The bid was $200 more than someone else's estimate, but I think the hassle-free nature and the professionalism justified the premium.  I'm confident that S&M concrete will get the job done *correctly*, which is by far the most important issue in any home contracting arrangement.  They might be a little bit more expensive than others, but I appreciate the peace of mind.  <br />"

"When we decided to replace the existing garage in our home we contacted 4 companies to give us estimates. Mike was by far the most responsive to my call and met me for an estimate just a few days later. Not only was he the friendliest contractor we met with, he also seemed to be the most knowledgeable. He was able to quickly visualize what we wanted and give us a pretty accurate ballpark on the spot. When he sent us the formal estimate a few days later, I was amazed by the amount of detail and work that he put into it. He gave us line by line details on what he would be doing and how much it would cost. It was the most complete and open estimate I have ever seen. And the cost to add the garage was very competitive. He came in equal to or considerably less than every other estimate we received. So it was a no brainer—we went with Mike and Cutter Construction! <br /> The work started just two weeks later (considerably faster than the other companies would have been able to get to us). Mike was very open with communication. He would notify me every step of the way with which employees would be there each day and what work they were hoping to complete. He was always responsive to our calls and emails and made us feel like we were his most important clients—a feeling we have never had when someone works on our house. When a couple minor, unavoidable hiccups happened, he showed up on site that day (within 1 hour) to take care of the issue and make sure that we were happy. <br /> Ultimately, the finished product is amazing. We ended up going with a number of upgrades because his prices were so good. I am doubtful that we could have received the same quality for that price from anywhere else. Mike and his team were great to work with and we will certainly rely on their services again in the future. I truly can't say enough good things. If you are <br /> having work done to your house, call Cutter Construction! You will not regret it! <br /> <br /> <br />"

My name is Gary Tallman, and I am a semi-retired General Construction Remodeling Contractor of 35 years to Eastern Iowa. We are the home of the perfect install. A few years ago I decided to slow down a little and to simplify things a bit. We did this by narrowing our business advertising focus to primarily market for the repair and replacement of residential and commercial doors, windows, and skylights. It's been a perfect match for me because it takes a full skill set to do this work, and it helps to keep me off the taller ladders..and that makes me a happy craftsman :)\nI'd like to mention that we chose to honor the community by offering senior and military discounts.\nD.B.A Cedar Rapids Entry & Window.

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Coggon, IA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
