"I used Hi Tech Contracting a few months ago to do a large project on my house: reroof, fix stucco, replace siding on my house, place new front porch pillars and paint everything. I had gotten many estimates at the time and felt their prices were the most reasonable and they had amazing reviews- I wasn?t disappointed. Recently we noticed our house was getting much warmer and our whole house fan wasn?t able to cool us down. So I recontacted Usman to add additional ventilation to my roof and he was out the next day to talk about my needs and give me an estimate. He gave me a fair quote, kept me well informed on the time line for when they could start/complete the project, and followed through. In the end, the work looked great and the additional ventilation did the trick. Thanks"

"JB General Contracting poured a new concrete slab for our house. I was looking for a contractor who could do the job immediately. Joe, the owner of JB contracting, pulled it off. With Joe's no-nonsense approach, clear communication, and on-the-job presence, JB Contracting made it happen. Joe cares about the quality of the work and followed up the day after the job was finished. I highly recommend JB Contracting; they did a phenomenal job in no time."

"Eddie was great to work with! We had a limited time frame to adhere to town inspections and Eddie and his team knew exactly what we needed and quickly got the job done. The results were great and even the inspector acknowledged the impressive repair. They were able to put a knocked out garage wall back on the foundation and repair the interior dry wall. I would recommend this company for any professional contract work due to their reasonable price, ease to work with and quality of work."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in College Point, NY

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
