"It went very well. The crew of workers was very professional. They came on time and finished on time. They cleaned up after they finished the job. The driveway looks brand new. They really walked the talk. My wife and I could not be more pleased. The price was right. I would highly recommend them."

"The crew showed up on time and performed the work. They cleaned up and were professional. After it was done they walked me though the details. Couple days latter I noticed a spot where the slurry had settled and left a hole under the crack. AJU came out the next day and not only filled it in, but patched the crack as well. <br />"

"I think my wife made the initial contact. Tim called me within 48 hours and came to look the situation over a few days later. <br /> Tim is courteous, professional, able to be both supportive of my ideas and let me know that there are options he thinks are superior without making me feel poorly. He is very personable and easy to talk with. <br /> The patio area is about 12x25 ft. The area by the backdoor is about 6x8 ft. I had originally wanted concrete with bluestone flagstones embedded in it for the patio and the area by the backdoor. He, and the other people I talked with, wasn't very keen on using concrete. He suggested embedding the flagstones in polymeric sand, which is one of the newer technolgies; it is frequently used with pavers, but I hadn't had anyone suggest using it with the flagstones before Tim. He also suggested adding a and quot;seat walland quot; to define the space of the patio and give something for people to sit on. I had wanted to just re-set the supporting poles, maybe replace them, for the pergola and trust that if they were properly aligned it would look good. Tim suggested just replacing it with new wood as it wouldn't be that expensive. It was an educational and productive discussion. <br /> He left and a few days later sent me email with a proposed drawing of what the patio area would look like, along with photos of some of the material options (pavers and flagstones). I sent him some photos of flagstones my wife and I had spotted while we were doing our preparatory homework for this job. He sent me a written estimate a day or two later. <br /> It took another week for the other bidders to get their estimates to me so I could see which to choose. Tim's was the lowest cost for what I was looking for (plain concrete was surprisingly cheap). <br /> After I accepted his bid, he came down to finalize the flagstone to use (so another trip down from Bloomington). He brought several samples and seemed open to going to the stoneyard in Mahomet if I didn't like his stone; in the end his was perfectly fine so I went with it. <br /> He set a time to start the project about 4 weeks out. He checked back in a couple days before to confirm everything was still on schedule. He and his 2 crew members showed up on time. They were all courteous, professional and worked hard. They stayed over in Champaign 2 nights to maximize the work time. They left the yard clean at the end of the day. I work at home and they were very tolerant of me coming down and observing closely; they also asked for my input when there were choices to be made, such as how to trim/shape the ends of the beams of the pergola. <br /> The job took 1 day longer than planned on account of the set of flagstones needing more cutting to make them fill the space nicely. <br /> When they were done the backyard looked transformed. It was a thing of beauty. I couldn't be happier. <br /> A few days after it was done I noticed that some of the polymeric sand was no longer filling the gaps as fully as it had; I called Tim and he came down the next day and filled all the holes in. Very excellent service. <br /> <br />"

"The first attempt at getting estimates went very poorly, possibly miscommunication. The second attempt was great. My calls were returned promptly. The owner Michael came out to the site and gave me the estimates (on time which is unheard of in the contracting world!). He had the report finished the next day! He then followed up a few days later to see if i needed anything else. <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Congerville, IL

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
