"Wonderful experience! Extremely turnkey and a very easy process. Great customer service. I have used the company for several years and they are always very organized and professional. I had one set of lights that were not working, I did one quick text to the company and someone was out the next day to fix the light. It makes the holidays having your home lite up so beautifully."

"This company name does not match any of the names I heard from. It wS troubling that the companies I did hear from used several different company names. One company emailed me with promotional crap three times!!! within two hours. I did not sign on for, nor expect, annoyances or high pressure tactics like this from an Angie’s List company. Not sure I’d bother again with Angie’s List. And how reliable, really, can a review be that provides your name and address to the company being reviewed. Really!! Again, tells me not to trust what I see on Angie’s List."

"We hired Sauser to put in a new garden tier along the side of our house to match another one we had done years earlier and put in a new patio. They match the brick perfectly to our existing gardens and the patio came out way better than we imagined. They were very courteous, attentive to detail, prompt and professional. I highly recommend them and I will be using them again."

"Last spring Shawn washed all of my windows inside and out.  For fall we picked which windows we wanted done outside only and which ones we wanted both inside and outside...the areas we spend the most time in.  He is very flexible and does excellent work!  He also removes and wipes down the screens that we put away for the winter.  I love looking out at the beautiful fall leaves through clean windows and I have recommended him many times."

"Emailed company for an estimate to repair or replace some interior doors. Got a prompt reply and set up a time for the appointment. The owner assessed the job and told us that repair was all that was needed, not replacement. He also gave us some insight into a future job that we are considering and could consider the company for. The repairs were able to be scheduled within a week and the job was well done. Only snag was a little mix up in the time that the job was to start, but this was very minor. Overall we are very happy with the experience. We very much appreciate the experience level of the people we dealt with (Jim and Tom).

Small jobs welcome

"Pam is wonderful she is always on time and her communication is on point. She work really hard and puts love in all she does. I recommend her to everyone. Her prices are reasonable and she doesn't over price and she's honest. If she can't do something she will tell you . She did my floors in my home and I absolutely love it. She instigated my shed. She's fixed some light fixtures and outlets in my house. Fixed my drafty front and back doors. I highly recommend Pamela 100%."

FAQs for holiday lighting add or remove projects in Cottage Grove, MN

If climbing ladders or handling wiring isn’t in your comfort zone, hire a pro. Look for installers who post clear per-foot or hourly rates, carry insurance, and have solid reviews. Comparing at least three quotes helps you spot fair pricing without sacrificing safety. Skipping credentials to save a few dollars can cost you far more in repairs, so pick a qualified team and enjoy a safe, eye-catching display.

Yes, booking between February and September often scores lower rates because demand is light and pros have open calendars. You might even negotiate a discount package that includes removal or storage. If the budget is tight, ask whether a handyperson or an off-season permanent-light install makes sense for your home and timeline.

Determining the number of holiday lights for your house depends on your home’s size and specific decorative vision. Your project requires 10 to 20 light strands for a basic exterior display, with 100 lights allocated for eaves and an additional 10 to 20 bulbs for each awning.

For trees and substantial shrubs, allocate five to 10 strands per unit to achieve complete and balanced illumination across your property.

Tipping isn’t mandatory, but it’s a nice way to thank your installer for a job well done. Most homeowners offer 10% to 20% of the total bill or round up to an even figure if the crew exceeds expectations. A small extra goes a long way toward showing appreciation—and may help you snag priority booking next season.

Yes, you can install holiday lights yourself if your property layout is straightforward and your electrical system is secure. Homeowners who are confident in their ability to safely handle wiring and use proper equipment can save money with a DIY approach.

However, it is crucial to test all outlets thoroughly and secure the proper ladders and safety gear before starting. Careful planning and adherence to safety guidelines are essential to protect yourself and your home while achieving an attractive display.

Start by clearing the area of loose debris, damaged shingles, and anything that could trip you up. Test outdoor outlets and, if you’re unsure, bring in an electrician. Use a sturdy extension ladder (or scaffolding for very high spots) and never work alone—having a helper steady the ladder is non-negotiable. Taking these simple steps keeps you, your roof, and your new lights safe.
