"It was a great experience. I highly recommend prodigy roofing. He was right on, he messaged me right away, communicated the whole time. He gave me an estimate within a few days the project was complete. Chris went above and beyond. He actually took a satellite down for us and ended up repairing our roof there that was damaged. I highly recommend prodigy roofing and would use them again. The price was well within budget. I would take a picture but I can't get on the roof."

"Tennessee Contracting Services did a great great job of addressing the multiple issues I had going on with my roof. I had damage and bad previous repairs that they knew exactly how to fix and repair. I received quality work, a detailed quote, a scheduled repair and great communication. They fixed my roof just like it was as important as their own roof. I have no need to shop around ever again for a roof issue, I will just call Tennessee Contracting Services."

"Everett Torrey was our contact for bluebird roofing and did an excellent job interfacing with our insurance adjuster and once approved by insurance to assist with the replacement selection process. Work was explained in advance and arrangements made to complete the project. The scheduler Jamie called to explain in detail how work would be done and exact timing of dumpster, materials and workers arrival. Finally Eric Elmo the site manager arrived with his crew and supervised job from start to completion. Every effort was mAde to insure no property damage and all trash debris and nAil removal was completed before releasing the job. Bottom line job completed as it should be. Most pleased"

"A recent storm took down our gutter. Everlasting Gutters came out quickly for a quote and was able to get it replaced during the holidays which we really appreciated. Price was fair for a gutter repair and service was done on time and very professional. Would highly recommend"

"After calling several roofing companies for pricing and availability, I scheduled a roof maintenance service with Southern Strong because they offered the best price AND could accommodate my schedule. The very next day, Wade arrived promptly, inspected my roof, and then showed me photos as he explained the situation: the flashing around the exhaust fan (as well as other places) was not properly sealed, and there were several exposed nails and penetrations. After he caulked the exposed nails and re-secured the headwall flashing, he showed me photos of the completed work. He said that if that these repairs didn't solve the problem, he would recommend replacing the flashing and the affected shingles. It is now seven months later, and I haven't had a single problem with the roof since then. I highly recommend Southern Strong Roofing: they are pleasant professionals who provide affordable, effective, and thorough service. The next time I have a roofing problem, I will make one call--and that will be to Southern Strong."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Cottontown, TN

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
