"Updating our home was a dream we have had for years. But finding a good contractor in Bay Area was so difficult, that we almost gave up. We were introduced to United C Construction by our architect(who we also love!) It was exhausting trying to find someone trustworthy and not overpriced. We had luck of working with Osmar which during the project we had clear communication, expectation of setting, professionalism and superior craftsmanship. He walked us through every step of the way, and helped problem solve tough permitting and structural issues in Berkeley!"

"If you are even remotely thinking about hiring this company for spending your hard earned, life savings for your dream project, my sincere advise from my own dreadful experience is DON'T DO IT. My experience was and continue to be a nightmare. As I made this mistake going with this company for my major house remodel ,which I had planned for and saved money for a long time, but now I am stuck with issues across all the areas they worked on and every day I find myself regretting the decision and cursing this company, my fate, seeing and dealing with the issues every day. My house has become a neighborhood joke and a cautionary tale about remodel mistakes to avoid. I learned the hard way that with this company, the only thing that matters is maximizing their own profit. PERIOD. which means pressuring into changing the scope last minute, hiring very cheap , incapable , inexperienced labor, not paying them as promised on time or paying very little, making them resentful and as payback they do a bad job, or simply walk away from the job. Moreover there is no quality check or monitoring or inspections scheduled , simply shows up to collect check and if questioned about the quality and delays, it's like dealing with the mafia boss. Of course I should have been more courageous and deeply involved to kick them out right in the beginning or enforce timely inspections, question them to catch issues promptly. But that's why we hire and trust these companies right ? Because we have our regular jobs to do. In my case this trust was 100% shattered and I find myself not trusting anybody anymore. Just to name a few issues I am finding after the remodel was as so called "completed" my skylights installation started leaking all over the kitchen, blew up my recessed lighting, due to other roofer review I found that there was no weatherproofing done by the cheap installer he hired who just skipped all the weatherproofing work to maximize his profit. There is no proof of inspection performed. Laundry relocation to garage : crew left a big hole from crawl space into the garage which led rats entering the garage and now I dealing with rat infestation. Attic space barrier from garage into rest of the area broken and never covered , so infestation now spreads all over the house, and now all of us losing sleep every night. Garage completion work and expectations were discussed well in advanced with his associate , but he spend 2 hours to force me into changing the scope, leading to unpleasant, aggressive back and forth so he can save cost on the bloody lumber and labor. Keeps adding to the disappointment . Apparently additional electric sub panel was added for distributing the load, now we intermittently lose power to part of the house requiring hard power reset. Shower basically becomes pool of water due to inaccurate slope . Incorrectly installed my Grohe shower system , now it just throws out extreme hot water Crews do not follow the instruction for installing the fixtures, windows and when corrected , become agitated and aggressive due to rework. Multiple cabinet doors were scratched and dented External smooth stucco work is the biggest joke of all where people can see weirdness and bumps from the street, Despite the fact I had showed him a great , professional stucco job across the street multiple times. Goal was to shove something down my throat as fast as possible and get paid. Internal smooth stucco started showing cracks within 6 months. And the list goes on and on.,, worst part is when contacted about these issues, there is no sense of responsibility and accountability, or offer to help resolve rather I was told to contact the horrible sub contractors he hired and deal with it myself."

"A few years ago we did a simple remodel of two bathrooms in Menlo Park with FVR. By the time we finished the project we just wanted these folks out of the house. After a few years I felt it was necessary to share our negative experience and how poorly much of the work has held up. Specific issues; 1. Substandard workmanship: a. Heating vent under the house was left unconnected--I was heating our crawlspace and not the bathroom for 6 months. This went undetected until I went under the house for something else! b. Looking in my attic, the electrical work to hookup the bathroom fan is clearly not up to code--junction box is not closed and there are multiple exposed wire splices. c. Gang box for the newly installed light switch is clearly not level and out of square. 2. Numerous examples with low quality finish carpentry: a. Gouge on a newly installed sliding door from the aluminum frame--supposedly fixed then recurred. b. Spackle and paste used to patch the casing around the door frame where it contacts the bathroom tile--looks terrible c. A supposedly 'straight' wall that was rebuilt by FVR, clearly bulges with an obvious curve in the baseboard. d. Sloppy work on the plumbing cover plates for one toilet--half smeared with paint and not attached to the wall properly. 3. Low quality of painting: a. Two slightly different colors of white used in one bathroom with sloppy caulking around the trim. b. Numerous blotches of paint on hardwood floors around the hallway baseboard--the kind that would be easily have been avoided by using masking tape. 4. Sloppy personnel and poor cleanliness: a. Folks were working while we were on vacation, and we came home late in the evening to find construction debris scattered in our front yard including razor blades, paint on our front walk (where stains can still be seen). b. For a year afterwards we found trash (food wrappers & empty bottles) behind the bushes or buried in the shrubs. c. I saw workers 'free handing' a circular saw for trim and baseboard--where one guy would hold the boards and another would use the circular saw. For sure not a safe or effective option--just glad nobody was hurt at our house by these substandard practices. Nobody could be bothered to bring a jobsite saw. I will add that we pointed out most of these issues to the company reps while they were happening-- most responses 'Just an honest mistake' and/or 'We will send somebody over to fix that'. At a certain point you stop trusting anyone from the company and just want these 'less-than-competent' folks out of the house. The customer shouldn't have to check all these details--especially about heating/plumbing/electrical work. Would not ever trust this company again to touch our house."

A small kitchen renovation requires an average of six to nine weeks from start to finish. This timeframe accounts for all phases, including demolition, installation, and finishing touches.
Projects with complex layouts or custom elements may extend beyond this timeframe, especially if you're handling portions yourself rather than hiring professionals. Material availability and contractor scheduling also influence your project duration.
The most efficient approach begins with thorough planning and securing necessary permits. Once preparations are complete, proceed with demolition, followed by rough-in work for plumbing and electrical systems. Next comes drywall installation and painting, then cabinets and countertops. Flooring installation follows, with backsplash and fixture placement completing the major components. This sequence minimizes the risk of damaging newly installed elements.
Replacing outdated appliances during your renovation often proves worthwhile, particularly for units over 10 years old. Newer models offer improved energy efficiency along with enhanced features and reliability.
Modern appliances also contribute significantly to your kitchen's overall aesthetic appeal and can become a selling point if you later decide to list your home. Consider models with energy-saving certifications that may qualify for utility rebates.
Several financing approaches exist for kitchen renovations. Options include personal savings, home equity loans or lines of credit, personal loans, or credit cards for smaller projects. The best choice depends on your financial situation, available equity, credit standing, and project timeline. Comparing interest rates and repayment terms across different financing methods helps identify the most cost-effective solution for your specific circumstances.
