"Josh was very friendly and professional. He knew his materials and the work repairs needed. Josh continued stay in touch both by e-mail and phone during the whole repair. His crew were punctual and did an excellent job with the roof. It was a ranch house with a flat roof over a closed in carport. Josh and Mike explained what I could do to remove and treat mold that was present from the leaking flat roof. After removing the plywood ceiling in the room with the flat roof, we knew what structure repairs were needed. The crew shingle a valley weaving the shingles his technic made the valley water tight. Paragon has exceeded my expectations."

"I am very satisfied with my new greenhouse, it is a great addition to the property and adds curb appeal. It rained a lot throughout the building process, which delayed the timeline a bit - Baywood was great at keeping an open line of communication throughout the process. I would work with the team again!"

"Gregg -and his team are top notch. They did a whole house remodel job for us, as well as fix our draining system in the yard, which included a new concrete driveway. Our house was built in 1978, and I basically have a new house! Gregg made great suggestions on how to bring our house into the 21st century. He stayed on budget (except when my husband added change orders). We removed the wall down the center of half of the house. Instead of having a box kitchen, den and a formal LR/dining room (which was never used), we now have a huge open area that is GREAT for family gatherings--if I am in the kitchen I can talk to everyone watching TV. And the house just FEELS bigger! We got rid of our carpet and put in in new flooring; we got rid of the popcorn ceilings and put in overhead lights with ceiling fans; he enlarged our laundry area so my husband didn't have so much trouble reaching into the dryer in a tight space; he added solar tubs in 2 of the really dark areas of the house, which made a HUGE difference; we got rid of the wood burning fireplace and had a gas fireplace; our master bath was remodeled--it's small but it LOOKS and feels so much larger now. We also did a total rewiring to bring the house up to current code. We've been in this house 27 years, and we wanted it remodeled for our retirement and we just couldn't be happier! Gregg was always available by phone or text, and his workers Ed and Eddie are wonderful! The total cost of our project was $97K....and it was worth every penny! Project started the first week of January 2016 and we moved back into our house on April 22. Thank you, Gregg and team!"

Ideas & Inspiration from Raleigh Addition & Remodeling Contractors

Kitchen Remodeling in Raleigh

A kitchen remodel not only improves the look of a home but also elevates its value. In addition, updates to the design and layout of a kitchen can increase space and improve efficiency so that homeowners can get the most out of the room. While a remodel might seem like a luxury to some, it is a necessity to others, especially those who live in older homes in North Carolina where issues extend beyond the cosmetic realm.

The Raleigh, North Carolina, area has hot and humid summers and cold winters with snow, ice, and sleet. It is also not uncommon for the state to feel the effects of a hurricane blowing past the coast in the summer or fall. Raleigh is the capital city and home to nearly 440,000 people, and there are over 1.2 million people in the statistical area. Because it is the capital, part of the Research Triangle, and home to many colleges and universities, it sees significant population growth each year. A kitchen remodel is an investment that homeowners should consider in order to keep their houses competitive in the real estate market.

Kitchen Remodel Project Costs

The cost for a kitchen remodeling project varies greatly depending on how in depth the remodel is, as well as the types of fixtures and appliances that homeowners choose. An upgrade that includes new paint, a backsplash, and cabinet refacing will cost significantly less than a total remodel that replaces floors, cabinets, counters, appliances, and more. The table below breaks down the costs for an 85-square-foot kitchen remodel in Raleigh and includes both low- and high-end averages.

The national average for a kitchen remodel is $20,079; however, the average amount homeowners spend on the project typically falls between the range of $11,371 and $28,853. This factors in all project sizes. The cost of a kitchen remodel in Raleigh falls right within the range of the national average.

Homeowners can work with a contractor to get all of the materials or fixtures needed for the project, or they can purchase their own from local businesses, which gives them a wider selection to create a truly custom kitchen.

Licensing and Qualifications

A General Contractor license is required for all contractors in North Carolina who work on projects that exceed $30,000. Hiring a licensed contractor ensures they have the knowledge and skills necessary to complete carpentry, masonry, construction, and other projects commonly seen in a kitchen remodel. Licenses are available from the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors.

Other Projects for a Raleigh Home

Completing more than one project at a time can save a homeowner time and money. While a kitchen remodel is a large and expensive project in and of itself, it can really benefit the home to extend the renovation to the dining room. Because these two rooms go hand in hand, new paint or floor coverings to go along with the updated kitchen can tie the spaces together without greatly impacting the total project cost.

Raleigh Area Information

Located in the center of the state, Raleigh makes up part of the Research Triangle along with Durham and Chapel Hill. North Carolina State University, Duke University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are all located in close proximity to one another in these three cities. As a result, the city and the surrounding areas have a diverse population, including families, students on all levels, and professionals.

  • Oakwood - This neighborhood has been around since the Civil War, so it is not uncommon to see Victorian-style houses that date back to the late 1800s here. The historic district is close to downtown, making it an attractive option for professionals and politicians. Likewise, those in the market for a fixer upper can find one in this neighborhood.
  • Stonehenge - Located on the north side of Raleigh, Stonehenge has been around since the 1980s. As such, the homes in the area are only a few decades old. It is a family-oriented community with several single-family homes and townhouses.
  • Brier Creek - Established in the 1990s, Brier Creek grew to prominence quickly. It is rather sprawling, with single family homes, condominiums, and million-dollar estates making up the bulk of the real estate options here. Because of its close proximity to Research Triangle Park, it is a top choice for young professionals with families, and remodels might cost a bit more here due to higher housing prices.
  • Five Points - This area has an urban feel and a lot of diversity in both its residents and its houses. Many older and modestly sized bungalows and cottages are found in this spot. Several small neighborhoods with their own unique qualities come together to form Five Points.
