"Great job. Jim picked up and delivered our 20-30 year old solid wood kitchen table. Not only did he sand and stain, but he removed the years of nicks and dents. We asked for a semigloss matte finish in place of the shiny finish which showed every handprint. This is much easier to clean."

"The results and efforts were Fantastic.  The Fix It man showed up to our very first meeting promptly.  Even though the weather was still cold out, he took his time to carefully describe to me what he could do to bring my lawn and landscaping to the next level.  He was precise in what his goals were.  For the lawn treatment, other vendors would come out once a month and put a treatment.  If they had to come out more than once, they would most likely charge additional fees. With the Fix it man, that is not the case.  He would come out as many times as he needed in a month.  That was his commitment to service he was providing.  The first day he worked on the patches of my lawn that needed to green up.  He utillized the sod that was torn up for the retaining wall.  Throughout the process, he continuously kept me updated on the progress and changes.  Another example of how commitment he was to the work was after he layed the first couple layers of the retaining wall, he realized it was off by 2 inches.  The Fix-it man redid the entire wall to get an exact fit!.  Talk about precise and commitment.  When measuring the retaining walls for the tree, he was down to the millimeter and was precise on his level.  <br /> It has been a couple months since the work has been done and I can tell you my yard has never been thicker or greener.  Nor have I received as many compliments on the landscaping that has been done.  My next project with the Fix-it man is to enlarge my deck.  I will turn to him for any thing that is needed to be done around the house.  His work and his demeanor is professional and he brings a great attitude to his job.  Thank you again Mr. Fix-it man!"

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in De Soto, IA

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
