"We contracted House Doctors to replace closet doors in 2 bedrooms. When they were finished, they handed us a bill that was about 50% higher than the price we agreed upon. After working with the owner to get documentation on the project, we discovered that they marked up the purchased materials by 50%. The owner stated they generally mark up between 40 and 55%, and they always let the customer know that before starting in case they want to get the materials themselves. They did not offer that as an alternative. Also, they painted the new doors with the hardware already on and got paint all over the hardware and the walls surrounding the door frames. They also tried to charge for materials they didn't even use. After speaking to the owner, he agreed to lower the markup to 30%, and had the technician come back to clean the paint off the door hardware, but there were still paint overruns onto the surrounding walls."
