Dan, the owner of Boston Premier Flooring, was extremely responsive using his moisture meter demonstrating that the underlayment concrete flooring was very wet. His crew removed the flooring to let the moisture dissipate before installing new hardwood. New flooring was installed a week later. They stained the floor and then applied several coats of polyurethane. It came out beautiful! This is the second time we used Boston Premier and I highly recommend them. Tao and his crew removed over 2000 square feet of carpet in multiple rooms and installed new white oak flooring. Tao also replaced two carpeted staircases with the same oak. Tao and his crew were meticulous on our floors and stairs, even spending an additional day to make sure our stair frame and plywood was level and secure before adding the treads and kick boards. Tao refinished the few rooms of existing hardwood we had at no additional cost and all of our new floors match our existing floors perfectly. "The project went as scheduled and at the quoted price. This work included the removal of existing carpeting and the installation of oak hardwood floors in six rooms (approximately 1,600 square feet). My prerequisites were for the installation to include mahogany border / inlay wood in a great room to match the existing border in the dining room, and the undercutting of the baseboard versus the quarter round used by many other companies. This inlay included a double interlocking square pattern in the middle of the room. The design and installation came out beautiful. The four bedrooms upstairs were completed over two different periods allowing for us to clear out two rooms at a time and letting the three coats of polyurethane to properly cure. The upstairs had an existing hardwood flooring in the hallway, which Cliff’s team cut back to weave in the new flooring and then refinish. This came out seamlessly and to look at the finished product would leave you to believe it had been all installed at the same time. Cliff’s pricing is very competitive, he and his team showed up on time for both segments of the project and the quality of the work is outstanding. I would definitely recommend Superior Hardwood Flooring for any new, replacement or refinish work."

Satisfied with initial work despite one mussed-up lengthwise joining, but that was near sink, not very noticeable. Over next year, however, around half a dozen gaps appeared between ends of planks in one area (a few minor ones in another area). Workmen came out twice (needed prompting), expressed surprise, said they’d replace planks. When workmen finally came out third time, no new planks. They just caulked the gaps with a “close” color. I could have done that, and with a closer color. Since then, the caulk has darkened & crumbled, leaving dirty gaps again. Will not rehire."

Laminate wood or stone flooring installations FAQs
Laminate flooring is made of multiple layers of synthetic material bonded together. The top layer is made from resin, which seals and protects the rest of the flooring from scratches and stains. The decorative layer features a print image of wood, stone, or ceramic, while the core is made from high-density fiberboard and resin to provide strength and structure. The bottom layer protects the core from moisture.
Carpet installs average $3.50 to $11 per square foot, while laminate runs $6 to $14. Carpet costs less up front, but laminate lasts longer, cuts down on maintenance, and delivers a stronger ROI. If you’re looking for durability and a resale bump, laminate often wins out despite the higher initial price.
AC ratings measure durability. An AC1 plank handles light foot traffic, while AC5 stands up to busy commercial spaces. The tougher the plank, the higher the price, an extra $1 to $3.50 per square foot. Choosing the right rating helps you balance budget and longevity.
You can lay laminate over most hard surfaces, but never over carpet. The soft pile doesn’t give the planks the solid, level base they need and can void the warranty. Instead, remove the carpet, check that the subfloor is flat, and roll out a firm underlayment before installation.
Laminate can add value when it replaces tired carpet, vinyl, or linoleum. A fresh, wood-look surface upgrades the room’s style without the cost of solid hardwood. Opt for high-quality planks with realistic patterns and good AC ratings to boost durability—and your home’s resale appeal.
