"Homemaker Landscaping erected a double tier retaining wall that is absolutely beautiful. These guys are super hardworking and don't mess around. They worked hard and got the job done quickly. Super Clean, Super Courteous, Fantastic Communication, and did a Fantastic Job. My home is new construction and I am having them come back to build a huge driveway retaining wall coming into my garage and also landscape all my retaining walls. Definitely recommend!"

"Great experience throughout the whole process. They went above and beyond in helping raise our front porch and front stairway. Alan was great to work with during the quote process. Greg and Jake did a great job the day of. Our porch looks so much better. Well worth the money in terms of safety, structural security, and resale value on our house. Can’t say enough great things about these guys. Thank you!"

"Excellent! They did a great job. They were there on time, had nothing but quality people working for them. I was very happy with the experience. It was last summer, probably April. It was $7000."

"<p>The project was delayed first because I had to secure the loan and then he was working on another project. The loan took at most one week to secure. I contacted him that I was ready to start only to find he had put me a couple of jobs back. At this point I was making payments on my equity loan while he worked other jobs. He did offer to cancel the contract but I did not want to go through the process of interviewing contractors again.</p> <p>We started the job and while shopping for the vanity cabinet, toilet, tile, sink, etc, I realized that he low balled all items. When I asked about this Mr. Lay stated if he put a higher dollar amount on the contract he would not get any business. </p> <p> He did the work on my job while working another larger job and a couple of times we had the discussion that he was hurried on my job. He always stated he wasn't hurried. The work continued.</p> <p> When it came to tiling the walls around the bathtub and the floor of the bathroom,  I assumed he knew what he was doing. I had purchased bullnose tiles for around the shower walls at a higher expense than  the tile.  He caulked the bullnose and ruined the finished  effect they should have had. The tile on the walls of the bath area are uneven. The grouted line  is a very wide in some areas and narrow in others giving a very  unprofessional appearance.</p> <p> After the job was completed I had some personal family issues and when things settled down I contacted Mr. Lay to see what he could do to correct the mistakes and make me feel better about the job. He did come to the house and looked at the job and told me that  without ruining the walls there was nothing he could do.  </p> <p>Everyday that I go into my bathroom I feel I was made a terrible choice for a contractor, for a tile job and that I threw my hard earned money away. Mr. Lay, personally, is a very kind man. He was very neat in his work as far as cleaning up at the end of each day, but his tiling work leaves much to be desired.</p> <br />"

"My wife and I are professionals residing in University City (I'm an attorney, she's a graphic designer).  We bought an old home (built 1949) with no master bathroom, but with a vision to install a master bathroom where there was a large walk-in closet that had an existing window there.  We bought the house with a construction loan to be able to pull it off.  In our previous home, while we had updated a couple of bathrooms over the years and updated our kitchen, we had always used good handyman types, but never a renovation company.  The difference between Striking Renovations and prior work we've had done is indeed striking.  Night and day difference. <br /> We spoke to several prospective contractors over the phone and met with 3 at the house.  One was far more expensive, roughly estimating $60,000; one was a lot cheaper, estimating $30,000.  One of the contractors actually seemed a bit worried to take it on.  When we first met with John Yacovelli of Striking Renovations, what jumped out at us immediately was his enthusaism and "can do" attitude about the project.  While not the cheapest quote, he was far less than the highest quote too.  <br /> Once we signed up with John, for the most part, the entire process was suprisingly very smooth and his partners and employees  were extremely professional and courteous in our house.   <br /> At the beginning, John took us on a shopping trip with him to pick out the tile, fixtures, etc. for the bathroom.  We went to approximately 4 different places with him, spending a little more than half the day, etc.  John gave a lot of good advice and it was a relatively painless process. <br /> Soon thereafter, the demolition of the walk-in closet began.  It took I think a week or less to fully demolish and begin framing out the new bathroom.  <br /> One of the main people to work on our project was Billy.  We were very comfortable having him (and the others) in our house; he was extremely polite and pleasant to be around and clearly is very good at his craft.  Frankly, all of them were.  We were a bit worried early on about strangers being in and out of our house each day, the disruption, mess, etc.  However, they cleaned up at the end of each day, never overstayed their welcome, worked around our schedule when we could not have them there, and other than the normal construction noises, we'd barely know they were around.  We thought it was a very high level of professionalism. <br /> The entire project took about 8 weeks, which was the estimated timeframe given.  It likely would have been completed earlier but for the delay on the arrival of some of the fixtures we picked out.  However, John built that into his estimated timeframe and finished roughly when he said they would finish.  <br /> The couple of times that we expressed a concern or observed something not being to our liking, Striking Renovations took care of it without hesitation and without hassle (never once did I have to plead or negotiate for them to make something right -- although, to be truthful, there were very few issues that we had to raise anyway).  The customer service and desire to satisfy us was very good throughout. <br /> In the end, we have a truly stunning (and "Striking") beautfiul brand new bathroom, a large master closet along most of one of the walls in our bedroom, and a new hallway/linen closet that is still much larger than the average linen closet.  <br /> As an aside, one of the great benefits Striking Renovations provides is various side projects that you may request while the main project is going on.  They were very fair and affordable on a few side projects for us.  That included installing a new gas line for a new gas range (and installing and setting up the range itself), moving a light fixture and cutting in a vent connected to our HVAC system so that heating and cooling would reach an enclosed porch that is used as a guest room and office.  They did a great job on all of those side items and we found the charges to be very fair given the quality of work they do.  I never felt overcharged on any of those side projects, but I have many times felt overcharged by less skilled handymen in the past. <br /> We recommend Striking Renovations without reservation.  I would tell anyone who is doing a meaningful renovation of any kind to call John Yacovelli and talk to him (and meet him) about it. <br />"

"From the consultation to the install was delightful! Dave went over, in detail, the plus and minus of the different levels of window we could purchase (no pressure) and what we would expect from start to finish with the project. I was hoping for windows to be done by a certain time and they were finished long before then! I love, love, love them. The installers were friendly, even after my 100 questions for them. Would HIGHLY recommend this company!!!"

FAQs for concrete driveways & floors installation projects in East Carondelet, IL

Polished concrete floors offer many benefits with very few drawbacks. While issues like discoloration, stains, or imprints may occur during pouring, these are rare when working with a skilled flooring contractor. Once polished, concrete floors are easy to maintain, long-lasting, and eco-friendly. They also resist mold and moisture, making them ideal for allergy-prone households, and offer versatile design options for both indoor and outdoor use.

Polished concrete flooring is often more affordable than tile. It involves lower material costs and less labor-intensive installation. Tile installations require additional leveling and preparation, which increases labor costs. Opting for concrete flooring helps reduce upfront expenses and provides a durable, stylish finish that saves money over time with minimal maintenance.

While epoxy flooring offers enhanced durability and toughness compared to polished concrete, it comes with higher material and labor costs. If budget is a top priority, polished concrete floors provide a resilient and attractive finish without the premium price tag, making them an ideal choice for value and long-term performance.

Polished concrete floors last 20 years or more when installed by licensed professionals and maintained with proper care. Their enduring finish withstands heavy use and remains visually impressive for decades. Regular deep cleaning and maintenance help safeguard the floor’s integrity, providing homeowners with a long-lasting, cost‐effective solution that endures daily wear without compromising style.

Polished concrete floors increase home value by offering a modern, sleek appearance and exceptional durability. A professionally installed floor not only enhances visual appeal but also minimizes maintenance expenses, making the property more attractive to prospective buyers. This flooring upgrade delivers a refined look while boosting overall market competitiveness and long-term property value.
