"First the good:  <br /> Todd Clark was a really nice guy who sent someone to install the heater when he said he would. The fellow did a first rate job of actually installing the water heater.  These guys are skilled plumbers.  <br /> Now the bad: <br /> Todd came to look at the job, then sent his young relative to do the job. Not a deal breaker, but unexpected.  <br /> The job took a long time to schedule because our job was low on their priority list. There was a cold snap, and our job was postponed to handle more pressing issues. Sort of understandable, but still, one doesn't want to be pushed down the list. <br /> The young man who installed the heater was fast and efficient, but he left a big mess for me to clean up in our basement. The heater is in our laundry room which has a painted concrete floor. He dumped a bunch of sediment on the floor, which ran to the floor drain, and on the way left a sludgy mess. He then said in something of a confrontational tone, "I'll leave this for you to clean up unless you want to pay a plumber's hourly rate for clean up." I did elect to clean it up myself, but...  <br /> I completely understand if you're having a bad day. But this was disrespectful. He might have said, "This job is messy and our policy is not to charge for clean up because most people elect to do it themselves."  <br /> I was hoping this recommended company would be one we could call on again, but will think twice now. Not because of the price or skill level, but I just felt like the installer did not appreciate the work. Too bad. Todd was a great guy."

"Luke came out and did the install in a day. The work done included installing a 99% efficient on-demand hot water heater, a whole-house water conditioning filter, a floor drain, and all the associated wiring, plumbing and gas work needed. In addition, he located the new equipment in an ideal location in our laundry room. The workmanship of the installation was very high and Luke did a good job on all the details making everything neat and tidy. The heater and conditioner are all very-high quality, top-end models and he charged very fair prices (not much more than I could find on-line) for the materials and equipment. There was a slight leak which took a couple of times to finally resolve but Luke was great about taking care of it, no problem. In the end, the work came in under the quoted price. Steve did the whole deal on a "hand shake" and his word. Definitely would recommend them and will use them again for any plumbing needs I have."

"Initially we went with Lowes who hired a contractor for our bathroom remodel. The whole experience was a complete nightmare. Homeworks was hired to demo the bathroom and fix the multitude of major issues. They were quick, incredibly great to work with, and the new bathroom was done properly with an outstanding end product. We will be sticking with Homeworks for all future projects."

"It took a couple days to have the city try and locate the main water shutoff outside the house, but they had no luck. Our neighborhood is old and there aren't very good records. So, Wes and another fellow with 3 Brothers came over and used a toner to find the water line, and they were able to locate the shutoff valve right away! They had to dig a little to get to it.. If they couldn't have located the shutoff, the alternative was to move our hot water heater away from the inside water valve (due to limited space), tear open the wall, and freeze the line. Ouch. Once the main water was shut off, they quickly replaced the inside water valve. Then they looked at the outside spigot, which needs to be replaced if the link isn't stopped. The bad thing is that the spigot is inside the concrete slab under our house. To get to it would be very difficult and the concrete would need to be torn up. Fortunately they were able to stop the leak by replacing a cracked bib washer and wrenching it really hard to get it stopped. So, what we thought might turn into a very difficult and costly job turned out to be a quick, affordable job. We are very pleased with 3 Brothers responsiveness, professionalism, and quality of work. They did a great job and I highly recommend them!"

"I called these guys and explained that I needed a boiler tune up and said I had a NW Energy rebate, and I called them since they are (were) a NW Energy preferred contractor. 'No problem' they said, 'we can come out and do it for $75.' Sounded good to me, I agreed and they came out. Then I get a bill for $150 (what they didn't tell me was they were gonna send an extra guy and charge me for him, even though he wasn't at my house the whole time and he left to get parts for another job-when I brought this up with the owner he was shocked because they didn't think I was still home when they were there). When I called the owner he said that his guy 'never would have said we can do that for $75, and if you don't pay me the $150 I'll contact every other plumber in town and get you blacklisted'. Needless to say I thought it was B.S., but what was I to do? All I could do was pay them and forget about it and them, I'll never have them work on anything of mine again. Also when I contacted them because they didn't fill out the proper paperwork for the rebate, they didn't return my calls. I had to go to the office and try to track them down. Then they tell me I was in the wrong, I never told them about a rebate, and that if they were to fill out the paperwork it would cost me extra money to have them come out and do it again. <br />"

"They had the part I needed and shipped it out pretty quickly. It seems their pricing was OK ($5.99) for the specialty bolt but shipping for a bolt was almost as much. Could have shipped it for about $.80 in a padded envelope."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in East Helena, MT

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
