"Excellent service. I first contacted B&B Roofing about 5 years ago for a leaking roof. Since then Michael has come out about once a year to do repairs until I could save up enough to replace the roof. He is very professional, knowledgeable and patient. This year I had finally saved up the funds to replace the roof. Michael worked with me to find the options best suited to my needs and steered me away from needless expenses. The roof was replaced in Feb 2018. We have had some very heavy rainfalls and high winds. The roof has held up beautifully."

"I was not at the house when Philip came to give me the quote, but we talked several times on the phone in great detail about what what he anticipated the job needed and why. He had very comparable prices to other roofers, but he won me over on the phone by going into detail of why he hand nails and how he would redo the chimney and wall flashing. <br /> I scheduled the new roof less than a week out and he and his crew showed up on time. Hand nailing does take longer, but there is less potential for damaging the shingles or nailing into a gap in the decking because there is much more tactile feedback. Also, he always strips off all the felt, since you really don't know what the decking is going to look like until you've seen it. Several companies don't go that extra step if the felt looks good, but there is always the chance of having a bad deck board underneath a seemingly fine strip of felt. <br /> Philip concentrated on the flashing and some of the detail work while the rest of his crew of four guys worked on everything else. They would only work in sections in case the weather turned unexpectedly, that way the home was never in any real danger of water damage. It ended up taking about two and half days to complete, but probably could have been finished in two. At the end of the second day they didn't want to risk having an unfinished section with expected bad weather on the way. <br /> After the roof was done Philip called to give me an update and ask if I had any questions or concerns. <br /> All-in-all I was very pleased with every aspect. I feel like I got quite a bit of extra attention to detail for the same cost as many of the other estimates I'd received. I would not hesitate to recommend Taylor roofing to anyone in the future. <br />"

"I had a roof leak after the storms. I worked with Jason Pope who was extremely helpful, great communication from start to finish and repaired my leak. I would definitely use Thompson Roofing & Construction again for any issues that may arise."

"Called budget roofing for an estimate and he came out on the 6th gave me a quote on a repair to my leaking chimney area of my roof. I called and agreed to the price. The work was down 2 days later. He tore out around chimney, removed corner molding, and shingles as needed. He installed water & ice shield underlayment, installed new flashing, and re-roofed the area. He would have provided a close matching shingle but, my husband wanted the shingles he wanted up there so, he bought the ones for the job. This was done when we were having single digit days and had one warm day that the work could be done on. He was very understanding of my husband wanting the shingles he wanted and he did a great job. The work took a bit of time but, he did a really great job I was told by my husband later. Have had no problems since and was given a warranty for the labor as well. <br /> <br /> I would use this company with no problems or reservations again. Highly recommend them to all my friends as well.  <br />"

"I had called 4 roofing companies and got none of my calls returned. I hired a contractor finally. After waiting 6 months on the contractor I hired who kept putting me off a friend called 1stop for me. They were out at the exact time they said they would be. The estimate was a few 100 dollars more than my previous estimate but after waiting 6 months I didn’t care. One guy came out to do the job which took 2 days. That was the quietest worker and he cleaned up the work area very well even putting a tarp down to collect debris. I would hire this company again. Work was good, cost very reasonable,"

"North Alabama Roofing & Restoration repaired two sections of my roof. One was near a dormer and the other around a chimney. The dormer area repair went well although there was a small amount of siding damage that was eventually fixed. The repair around the chimney included siding, replacing the chimney cap, replacing flashing, and roof repair. This portion of the job did not go well. There were multiple defects, some aesthetic, some functional. I had to have the company come back out 6 times before they finally repaired the area to my satisfaction. Some of the defects included: Exposed nail heads on the ridge cap (no sealant), using architectural shingles on the ridge cap instead of the proper ridge cap shingle material, incorrectly sizing the edging on the siding resulting in exposed bare wood (that was then covered in some silicone goop), incorrect lapping of siding that channeled water behind the siding, exposed nails in the siding, and broken new siding that would allow water to get in. Overall, communication with the company was spotty. My initial sales rep (Jenard) did not return calls after the paperwork was signed. I eventually resorted to calling the home office on a regular basis to resolve the problems above (did I mention it took 6 additional trips to get it right?). To their credit, everyone that I spoke with at NAR&R was very polite and they did not balk at sending the crew back out multiple times. I believe the root cause of the problem was the roofer not having all the proper materials to do the job correctly and the roofer not knowing how to do siding work. Eventually, NAR&R called out a siding company to do that portion of the job correctly. Pictures attached highlight some of the problems that were present after the repair. Incorrect cap material, exposed wood, and incorrect lapping of siding materials. All were eventually corrected to my satisfaction although I believe that none of them should have existed in the first place."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Elkmont, AL

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
