In most cases you can stay in your home while the work is done, and if you don’t feel like moving those big couches--we can take care of that too. I will guide you through the process by going over every detail and answering all of your questions. My on site bids average 1-1.5 hours, although I am willing to spend as much time as it takes to educate my clients. He explained his process and said that he uses a water-based finish. Since I wanted to do a buff and re-coat, he recommended a matte finish. John was able to accommodate my tight schedule and arrived on time. The results were fantastic! No fumes and my floors look almost new without the expense of a complete refinish. I highly recommend John and his company."

"My wife and I were contemplating putting new carpet throught out our entire house, along with two flights of stairs. Our daughter has viral induced asthma and we wanted to replace old flooring that was in our home when we bought it. Robert listened to what we wanted and our needs and then suggested engineered hardwood floors since they reduce allergens by 87%. He then gave us some links to help us learn more about this and information of the benefits of wood floors with people with asthma. We had him back a couple more times to discuss and then hired UB Harwoods to install pre-finished, engineered flooring from Mirage. There was never a hard-pressure sell, only honest information and answers to our questions. They did an unbelievable job! They matched floor levels perfect that originally had all different types of existing flooring materials, custom cut and stained stair treads to match the new pre-finished floor, and even matched heat vent covers. We are extremely happy with their quality, service and expertise. We have recommended UB Hardwoods to at least a dozen friends, all of which are satisfied customers now like us. Laminate wood or stone flooring installations FAQs
Laminate flooring is made of multiple layers of synthetic material bonded together. The top layer is made from resin, which seals and protects the rest of the flooring from scratches and stains. The decorative layer features a print image of wood, stone, or ceramic, while the core is made from high-density fiberboard and resin to provide strength and structure. The bottom layer protects the core from moisture.
Carpet installs average $3.50 to $11 per square foot, while laminate runs $6 to $14. Carpet costs less up front, but laminate lasts longer, cuts down on maintenance, and delivers a stronger ROI. If you’re looking for durability and a resale bump, laminate often wins out despite the higher initial price.
AC ratings measure durability. An AC1 plank handles light foot traffic, while AC5 stands up to busy commercial spaces. The tougher the plank, the higher the price, an extra $1 to $3.50 per square foot. Choosing the right rating helps you balance budget and longevity.
You can lay laminate over most hard surfaces, but never over carpet. The soft pile doesn’t give the planks the solid, level base they need and can void the warranty. Instead, remove the carpet, check that the subfloor is flat, and roll out a firm underlayment before installation.
Laminate can add value when it replaces tired carpet, vinyl, or linoleum. A fresh, wood-look surface upgrades the room’s style without the cost of solid hardwood. Opt for high-quality planks with realistic patterns and good AC ratings to boost durability—and your home’s resale appeal.
