"Summary: The entire experience was excellent. Good communication throughout the process, and they did exactly what they said. They did the demolition on the cabinets, countertop, and backsplash, refaced some existing cabinets, and added a lot of custom cabinetry, along with a quartz countertop. The price was under 1/2 of what several other companies quoted. Price: They charged us under half of what some other companies quoted. However, it's not quite apples to apples, because those other companies folded in everything (plumbing, electrical, etc). I did some prep work myself to demo the existing island, and arranged the plumber and electrician myself. I ended up saving over $20k all told. What they do: They removed existing cabinets based on our contract, removed the existing tile backsplash and repaired the dry wall so that it was "tile ready". They installed custom cabinets (much higher quality than the existing boxes), faced all the cabinets to make the transitions from older boxes to new ones undetectable, added the new island and countertop. They replaced all doors with soft close hinges, and all of the new drawers also have soft close slides. The new cabinetry is very well made, real wood boxes, and high quality materials. What I did: before they came out, I took out the existing island. I also arranged for plumbing and electrical, as needed, and repaired the floor around the new island. After they left, I tiled the backsplash, installed the open shelving, and put soft close drawer slides in the old drawers to match the new ones. Timeline: Once we put down our deposit, we waited just about 5 months, which was a bummer. But once they started, they were true to their word and were done within 8 days. Results: We ended up with a really nice kitchen. The layout makes a lot more sense, and we essentially doubled the amount of usable counterspace. The cabinets and drawers are all soft close, and while we did put in some open shelves, we ended up netting about the same amount of cabinet storage with the addition of the new lowers along the wall and the much larger island. Other odd notes: We have two cats and two giant dogs, and needed access to the kitchen space during the remodel. They were really good about keeping doors closed and keeping the area tidy at the end of each work day. We planned to not use the kitchen during the remodel, but they did indicate that they would work with us if we had to."

"Words can't express how happy we have been with our decision to go with Trickett Woodworks to build and install the cabinets in our custom kitchen. Geoff and Brian have been exceptional! Their communication before and during the project was always great. We had to delay the selection of our cabinet maker due to COVID, and Geoff was the only person that had regular check-ins with us during this time, none of the companies reached out to us at all. Trickett's workmanship is top notch. We asked for a very custom design that followed the contour of our cathedral ceiling which is not common. Geoff worked with us to come up with ideas on how best to accomplish the look we were going for and it turned out amazing. Geoff and Brian also went the extra mile when our countertop installers damaged several drawers and doors. Geoff made sure everything got fixed and that we were taken care of. I can't understate how happy we are with our cabinets and our experience with Trickett. We'll definitely be using them for future projects and highly recommend them to anyone."

"Rob was great. I had quite the long road finding someone to do the work my living room needed. I had estimates all over the map and knew it was going to be fussy work. I was worried that the cheapest estimations were not really understanding what needed to be done and the most expensive were used to such high end clients that wanted historic level restoration. <br /> Rob quickly established the balance of quality and price I wanted and was pleasant and professional to work with. He also was non-defensive and responsive when I pointed out a missed spot or a drip. <br /> My trim work has been brought back to looking crisp and uniform (there is a lot of it, it is an old craftsman house). And he finished my long neglected front door repaint. <br />"

"Kline Construction came highly recommended by at least 3 individuals, who had major renovations with Kline. A meeting with Dennis Kline in his office instantly convinced my wife and I that Kline and Associates would do the total renovation. After a site visit in which we told Dennis what we wanted, he produced a working budget, which we approved. As the work progressed, everything we asked for was slightly overestimated in the budget, which made us happy as we paid the bills. Unforeseen but needed work was accommodated by Kline construction despite their busy schedule, and Paul Lacaille worked some evenings because he had moved on to another site. <br /> After consulting with my wife to design the kitchen layout, Kline Construction's cabinet shop and in house painters (wood stain also) produced all of the cabinetry in the kitchen. Bird's eye maple was selected for the cabinet veneer. Paul Lacaille oversaw all of the carpentry and was the first person on the site and the last to leave. He had many great ideas (door to the patio), and his high standards insured that everything was done the way he did it or else... His thoroughness discovered water damage in one of the bedrooms from shoddy repair of the chimney flashing, which the previous owners occluded from us. He had the drywall completely removed to check for damage to the beams of the house and to mitigate any mold. Stuart Evans (roofing) spent almost a whole day to repair the flashing and damage just below. John Petrea (Natural Accents Flooring) and his crew did a wonderful job on the maple flooring. Troy Grady of GSS Construction cut 3 Granite slabs to produce the Blue Luis granite that became the large kitchen island, and countertops. The same granite was used in the downstairs powder room, the second floor bar area, and the cabinet top in the solarium, which also had all the floor tiles replaced to match the maple flooring. In summary, Kline Construction and their talented associates brought out the beauty of the property by taking into account what we wanted and gave us their sage advice on how to carry out the work practically. Most builders can knock out cookie cutter homes. It takes a master builder, however, such as Kline Construction to renovate a home, keeping the best of the old and transforming the home with the owner's vision in mind. To accomplish this work, talent and teamwork are needed, and Kline provides both. <br /> Since the initial renovation, we have used Kline construction for smaller jobs and advice, which Dennis and Andy Kline are always willing to provide. All Weather Roofing replaced our shake roof with 50 year composite roofing, which looks great. Rutherford Electric continues to do small and larger jobs for us. We are now planning additional home improvements and have chosen Kline and Associates to do them. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Dan came in and gave us a   quote.  I called to schedule.  At the appointed time, Bob came over and took out the cabinet doors to go to the shop for lacquer, then he began cleaning and priming.  bob was careful to make sure that he had the door numbered, including the hardware, so that it could be put back together.  I bought some hinges to match our appliances, but they didn't quite fit and John took my old hinges and painted them the color that I needed.  Throughout they were on time, professional and worked very cleanly.  These guys are VERY VERY good.  Came in on time and on budget.  Great experience.            <br />"

"Mr. McHandy was very cheerful and personable, yet professional. My seven month old grandson is starting to pull himself up, so I wanted Mr. McHandy to attach two bookcases to the wall. I also asked him to put up a plant hanger. When he arrived, I told him I had a couple extra things for him to do, if he had the time. He said that would be fine (it didn't faze him a bit that I sprang a couple more tasks on him). Earlier in the day, I had tried to assemble a high chair, but found I'm not strong enough to do it. I asked Mr. McHandy if he'd tackle it for me. He sat right down on my living room floor and commenced to assemble it! It was great. He made himself at home and helped me out. Then I asked him to change a light bulb for me, because I have nine foot ceilings and I'm short and have a difficult time reaching when I'm on a ladder. Not a problem for him!"

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Ellensburg, WA

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
