"Rich is the "go-to" concrete guy for the Eastside. He completed two major projects at my house this summer and I couldn't be happier with the results. A new driveway and steps completely changed the look of the front of my house. He has a good eye for design and the construction skills necessary to complete even the trickiest projects. The crew was great to work with and Rich is onsite and working the entire project. His schedule fills up quickly so get on his list early in the year."

"I needed to have my crawlspace entrance widened to accommodate a new furnace. For starters, the wood frame around the entrance, nailed to the concrete foundation, would have to be removed. Additionally, a few inches of the concrete wall would have to be removed to make the opening even wider. The work was complicated by the fact that the entrance was surrounded by a small aluminum enclosure, which made things pretty cramped.
The two NCC employees (Garret and another) arrived on time. They removed the frame with a large pry bar. They also made a clean 20" vertical cut through the 8" concrete wall. When they were done they made sure I thought the opening was large enough for the furnace. In the end, we concluded that the aluminum enclosure would also need to be removed. They were willing to do that too, but they didn't have a reciprocating saw with them. They did advise me on how they thought it could be done.

"Rome came the next day, explained everything, and most importantly he was a guy I instantly felt I could trust. No games just an experienced concrete guy fixing our concrete problem. Will hire again and recommend to others."

"Overall they did a good job. A couple small issues: communication was challenging at times because it was hard to know when the crew was going to actually arrive at our house to work, and they mistakenly dug up the wrong part of our lawn due to a miscommunication; quality-wise, a thin crack appeared on part of the concrete patio after a few months. They are friendly and competitively priced."

"Hired to remove some concrete from our sports court and rebuild stairs in our very terraced yard. They were very friendly, professional and did the work quickly & beautifully. Also priced fairly against other quotes we received. Would hire again & recommend to anyone looking for concrete work to be done."

"We hired Pioneer Concrete to demolish a badly stamped patio job and replace it with a stamped and colored patio around a swim spa. Joe helped us lay out a different stamp pattern that would work best for our project. Joe knew we were nervous about getting the best results this second attempt, and his attention to the details and our concerns allayed our fears and worries. Joe and his crew were on the job promptly (early!) every day, and got things quickly demolished and set up for the new pour. Joe and his crew were great to work with, even after we had them undo a full day of setup work to change the design layout. Joe immediately saw how the changes would enhance to result, and he and his crew went about making the changes and stayed positive. Sure, Joe charged us for the extra time but the results were worth it, and exceeded our expectations. As Joe told us in the beginning, he always brings his A team to a project, and they do a great job."

"They were very skilled in contouring the patio as desired and helped create the space we envisioned. Changes were incorporated flawlessly and the project was completed in a timely manner in spite of the weather not being cooperative- rain, snow, hail and mud. Great job."

"They were very responsive up front and scheduled the work quickly. Arrived on the day and helped us complete some other work at no additional charge while waiting for cement to arrive. Unfortunatley one of the workers walked across the patio and left mud boot marks that will not come out. We attempted to contact Sam multiple times however, after the first time he answered via text he stoped responding and never came out to address the issue. We are now stuck with permanent boot marks in our patio. They also requested to be paid in full up front but backed off when we offered to put half down. Otherwise we were pretty happy with the work but very disappointed that they did not respond or even come by to see if there was anything they could do to help fix the issue."

"We hired Island Concrete to do the ground prep and pour of a 10'x20' concrete slab that we will be placing a shed on. The end result was nice enough to be a patio! (Too bad it's going to be completely covered by a shed.) It was a pleasure to work with Island Concrete and we do plan to hire them again in the future."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Everett, WA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
