"I called Andi @ General Masonry at the end of June, and he came right over to take measurements and give me a quote on the spot. I thought it could take weeks to complete, since it is a 33' x 33' area including a pathway and wall with steps. He told me he would return in 20 days and he could get it done in 1 week. Twenty days later he was there with his crew, and a week later it was done. His men were very hard working professionals who worked with my suggestions and did everything that I asked. The work came out awesome. You can drive a Mack truck on it -- very solid. Lots of compliments from friends and family."

"and quot;Tani and his father and quot;Valterand quot; did a fantastic job on our dry lay flagstone patio, and did it at a very competitive price. <br /> They cleaned up at the end of the day, were responsive to changes we made, didn't kill us on the extra work we asked for (back gutter which ran under the patio), and finished within the schedule they gave me. <br /> I would certainly recommend them. It is backbreaking work doing flagstone, and it takes a good eye to do a irregular pattern, but they nailed it. They went out of their way to get some nice thick stone when a local suppliers product was not acceptable (too thin), at no extra charge. They even fixed and leveled our front steps at no charge. <br /> The only negative is that I was expecting, and we discussed, a final tamping as some stone still moves slightly, however this is to be expected. This does not detract from the work they did at a very good price. <br /> Thanks!and quot; <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Falls-village, CT

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
