"The team with Apex responded to our needs punctually, earnestly and with thorough quality. Our 30 year shingles are on year 22 and Pat confidently spoke of their ability to complete the necessary repairs to extend the life our roof. We are so grateful for his honesty, professional opinion, and customer commitment, when other companies were only willing to replace it. All of this with fair and reasonable pricing. We are HIGHLY SATISFIED customers and absolutely recommend Apex Roofing!"

"If you’re looking for a reliable, honest professional roofer, look no further. I received two quotes prior to Richards Roofing and this company was honest unlike the others. The owner was professional & responsive. My roofing issue was a quick fix & extremely reasonable. Southfield, Michigan Homeowner SW"

"The whole experience was good. The warranty is exceptional The customer service was nice and the guys that actually installed the roof were hard workers. There are only two issues I had. One, the initial consultation lasted 7 hours. Between discussions about the roof to the actual roof inspection. Second. The Forman on the job barely spoke English. There was a gap that had to be overcame for understanding my questions I had. Towards the end, he offered to call someone to translate but that, I felt, was too little to late. But like I stated earlier, the group as a whole worked very hard and the roof looks great."

"I hire Pure Gutter Solutions to get the gutter filter installed. Gave a fairly reasonable price and also they were not as pushy as a certain company. The work that was done was also professional and clean. Will recommend to anyone trying to get gutter filter installed."

"The service tech was Guy.  He was professional and informative.  He asked if I had any concerns, inspected the house, did a heat test, walked me through all the areas that could use more insulation, and gave me tips for things I could do myself.   At the end, he gave me an estimate for all the different areas we discussed without any pressure to schedule the work which I also thought was very respectable.  I think people should try their insulation check just so you know what areas of your house need extra insulation.

"Lee our chimney sweeper came on time. Lee is very knowledgeable with chimneys giving me pointers on how to reduce smoke in my home as I start the fires. He also gave me recommendations on we're to purchase wood and equipment for the fireplace. Don't go spending 150, as I was quoted by another company which will remain nameless."

"We chose SureGuard even though we had better quotes from other companies because we were sold on promise that work would be completed by their crews and supervised by their foreman daily. We loved the idea of hiring a local business that uses their own crews. It was obvious once work began that SureGuard was subcontracting work to other companies, and they did not send their foreman with these crews. The paint crew arrived and didn’t seem to have a complete picture of the work to be performed. They were difficult to communicate with and we had questions about the quality of their workmanship. I ended up having to place calls with their office to address my concern. To SureGuards credit, they did send out someone the following morning and my concerns were addressed. The work did turn out ok in the end, however the process was stressful. Had we known they were going to sub out the work we would have gone with the other bids. I would consider them for roofing, which appears to be their core business."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Farmington Hills, MI

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
