"Right from the start everything went like "clockwork". Communications and scheduling were timely and accurate. Marsha kept us informed every step of the way. The estimate for the job was fair and reasonable and we signed on and scheduled the job. Showing up on time, communicating necessary information such as delivery of supplies and job scheduling are important. They followed through perfectly. The job was done in one day, the crew was professional, experienced and very clean. We are delighted with our new patio and we do not hesitate to recommend Exotic Pavers to anyone. So, do yourself a big favor, call them for an estimate...you'll be very glad you did!!"

"My back yard was very uneven and lumpy and was about 4-6 higher than the sidewalk. They removed the fire pit and clothes line bracket, scraped and leveled the back yard. They worked with the sprinkler company who had to come and extend the line and add a head. They had to remove a number of roots from trees previously removed that were buried. Reinstalled the fire pit in a different location and the clothes line bracket. In the front yard pulled back a mulch bed to scrape and level next to the driveway, replaced the mulch bed and scraped the ditch to give me a easier slope for cutting the grass. Put down topsoil, had a very nice even grade. Came back the next day and put down the Hydro seed. Gave me 2 pages of instructions on how to maintain the new and quot;babyand quot; grass that would come up. They were very courteous, answered all my questions during the process and when finished asked if I had any other questions . A pleasure to work with. I was very pleased with their attention to detail in both the work and the clean up. Cutting my grass just got a lot easier. <br />"

"Estimator came out immediately and promptly gave me an estimate. Due to the fact that my existing water barrier had broken up over the winter, I was having water problems. At times a virtual river came down the driveway and had to be diverted off a side hill. I ,therefore, wanted the work done as soon as possible. The estimator suggested some sand tubes as a temporary fix and this was a very helpful suggestion. He later emailed me and said he thought they could get to the driveway in a few weeks. That was on May 3. They finally came on June 11. <br /> This is a large company and they know what they are doing. I am happy with the driveway and would recommend them for large projects like I had. Not for just sealing a driveway, however. There were some problems......for one thing their equipment is very large for residential use. One planter box at the garage end was cracked and the concrete sidewalk chipped with the large equipment used to remove the concrete. Also, I was left with a huge ditch all along next to the driveway. Since the water all drains in that direction, I have spent weeks turning this ditch into a raingarden (when it's finally finished!). Also, because of the large equipment, a lot of the street past the driveway was broken and had to be paved. Tire marks from the asphalt can still be seen coming from one driveway. <br /> I went with this company because they are well known in our area. I would recommend them if you are not in a hurry and are willing to wait for the work to be done on their schedule."

"Overall I was extremely pleased and satisfied with the outcome. From a construction standpoint, everything was completed as requested. The quality of work was excellent and timely. The work was done in the winter months and the crew and work-site were kept very clean. The outcome was excellent and the addition turned out beautiful. <br /> But what made the most difference was Gary Harms himself. Unlike most builders, Gary is very customer focused and detailed orientated. He keeps you informed every step of the way so you don't have to wonder what is being done. He makes suggestions/recommendations along the way so that you can make sure the work that is completed is to your liking. He is always accessible and available when needed. This was very important for me because this is a cabin and I am not at the home regularly to inspect the work. With Gary you don't have to worry about what is going on, he will make sure you are informed, and most importantly, happy! He also did a lot of "custom" work that he suggested and all of it turned out fantastic. Much of it was done by Gary himself which proves his commitment to quality work.  <br /> I would recommend Harms Enterprises for any building/construction job!"

"My service tech, Jordan Foy, called promptly in the morning and arrived right on schedule. He was friendly, knowledgeable and did a great job installing my sump pump and the underground line. He made sure I approved of what he was going to do each step of the way. He was also very nice to my golden retriever puppy who wanted to be his assistant. I will be using Ayers Basement Systems again for additional work on my basement next spring."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Fife Lake, MI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
