"I don’t write recommendations, but I highly recommend John McClung Roofing. Early in my career I was a carpenter, then a renovation contractor, so I’ve put on maybe 5 roofs with my own crew. Although that was a few decades back, I know what good construction work is. I don’t know much about insurance. I contacted JMR when I had wind damage to my roof. They were recommended to me by a friend whose values I respect. Their sales presentation was much better than the second contractor I asked for a bid from – they listened to what I wanted, provided fact based answers, followed through with things like documentation of their insurance coverage and met the schedule they laid out in our initial meeting. Once the work began, the crew was almost entirely Spanish speaking, which caused some confusion at one point. The crew also used no safety equipment, which I didn’t think to ask about in advance. Those were the only 2 quibbles I had with the crew or work. The actual roof work (47 square of composite) was excellent, very professionally done, quickly, cleanly and with consideration for the impact it had on our daily routine. But there was one thing JMR did that was waaaay above and beyond what I expected and what I likely would have gotten from any other contractor. After JMR had been paid in full – which meant there was nothing more they could get from me except for this recommendation – they contacted my insurance claims adjustor and took rigorous exception to the roof area measurements the insurance company had based the amount the insurance company would reimburse me for. JMR’s own estimate and on the job measurements showed the insurance company would short me by almost 10%. They demanded the insurance company gross up the reimbursement amount. And by golly, the insurance company did. Instead of costing me anything at all, JMR’s advocacy put money in my pocket by the time the final insurance payment was deposited in my account. Thank you, JMR!"

"Joe came out to look at a roof leak. He was able to assess the problem and resolve it in the same trip. Joe has great experience and knowledge - when it comes time for me to replace the roof, he will be the one I hire."

"Should up on time with the contracted material and finished in 2 days. Clean up was good only leaving a small box of stuff for me to collect. This is not a complaint but typical of most contractors I have hired. No supervision. A crew came out did the work but as far as I know no one checked on them. After the job was complete I was asked if they did a good job. I am in no way qualified to comment on a roofers work or a railing installer or plumber or a/c installer."

"Jimmy came. Was on my roof 25 minutes tops. No caulking, no repair, just pulling out debris which he put in bags I provided then left me with them. For $175. The math speaks for itself. That's over $5 per minute. No thanks."

"I found Stanley Honeycutt to be  honest and forthcoming throughout the process of having  the new roof put on, from the first day when he came to do the estimate and throughout the actual work in progress.  He and his men were prompt and efficient and he kept me apprised of what was going on so there were no sudden surprises.  They cleaned up so thoroughly when they were done that I couldn't even tell that they'd been here.  It was a very satisfactory experience and I would recommend them to anyone needing roofing work.  The price may seem steep to some, but I had several estimates and they were all in same ball park, even a little higher.   I have a large, older ranch house with a quite a bit of roof area, and also the price included the removal of two layers of old tiles, and the roof over a large porch had significant damage to the wood under the tiles from all of the heavy rain we have had this year.  I am very pleased with the work they did. <br />"

"The process went better than expected mainly do to expertise, including the crew, timeliness, and communication before during and after the installation. Steve listened to expectations and roofing issues then came onsite to examine the roofing and construction. It became obvious that he was an expert in all things about metal roofing which is important I found out researching that many metal roofing installs, including my older metal roof can be installed incorrectly allowing for long term recurring leaks, critter (bats) access and wind damage. Use an expert specializing in metal roofing! Based on my needs and the assessment he provided two options of high quality products with detailed materials and labor the day after he was onsite. Pictures of the progress and issues like water damaged wood were sent as they developed. He communicated his schedule and changes in a timely manner. Overall, Mad Roofer has been the best and most reliable contractor I have worked with in years."

"Darrell and his co-workers came highly recommended. It only took them a week to build an amazing deck with exactly what I wanted. These guys are professional, understanding of what you want, and do one **** of a job. I would highly recommend Darrell and his crew to build anything. They even took out a double window and installed a French door which looks beautiful!!"

"Craig worked with us on price and truly delivered excellent service and professionalism. Craig went above and beyond and did way more than just the repairs at task. They took care of so much more. Roof was done in a timely manner and other work done just as quickly. Very kind, and personable. Would highly recommend!"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Fletcher, NC

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
