"I have a Generac 3300i portable generator that wasn't working at all. I took it to Brian—a true professional—and within 30 minutes, my generator was like new; one pull and it starts immediately. Thanks, Brian."

"In May of 2023 I had a system installed. When hurricane Milton ? came through the system failed. Called for emergency repair. Was told for an upfront payment, a technician would arrive within 48 hours. Technician did not come. After repeated calls. I was told because of an over abundance of calls I was pushed back a week. Duke Energy restored power to our home before Genrex came by. Mind you the Generx is supposed to perform during emergency. Now to get a service for a annual check up, to maintain warranty. Was told my last service person used superior parts. Why would they not supply quality products initially? I am very unhappy with Generx. I will not recommend Generx. In fact I will strongly advocate against this company to family and friends. "

" Today we had Jairo and Rene from ELEKRON ELECTRIC install a ground wire, which was not installed in my dryer. They install a ground wire and an electrical cord for my dryer which burned out because of faulty wiring in the past from another electrical company's electrian. They also installed an outside flood light, and a track light in the washer and dryer closet. These men where polite, clean, and professional I was impressed and satisfied with their work, I will call again ELEKRON ELECTRIC. Highly Recommend "

"I am 77 and not very healthy. This bad and stressful experience is taking a toll on me I need your HELP as soon as possible. June 25, 2025 ...The contractor's employees installed different BRAND electrical PANELS than what was listed in my CONTRACT. July 26, 2025...After several exchanges of texts, I agreed to have only one of the two electric PANELS (The inside one) replaced to fix his mistake. I accepted to have only one of the two electrical panels replaced to fix his mistake in exchange for him providing a professional worker to fix and paint without extra charge the sheetrock damaged around the electrical box during the installation. On June 26, 2025, I paid him $2,000. (see receipt in the PDF file attached). On July 3, 2025 before the second inside electrical panel was replaced, the Palm Beach inspector came and FAILED the inspection. On the same day that he replaced one instead of two of the wrong electrical panels (which I had agreed to), the electrician texted me that he wanted another $1,000. cash before he gets the sheetrock repaired/painted and before he schedule the inspection and before the inspection PASS. I don't trust him anymore. He is at least 6'3'', he weighs over 300 pounds and he scares me. I live alone and I don't want him in my home anymore. Because I did not want to give him $1,000. that day and because I texted him back that I would give him the final payment after the work would be fully completed and pass the inspection, ...he became furious. He texted me that my refusal to pay $1,000. on command, that day, was disrespectful and he waved the $2,000. balance that I owe him (see exchange of texts attached) and he does not want to have anything to do with me and he texted me to find another electrician to finish the work and he does not want to fix the sheetrock and call FPL and schedule the inspector to PASS the permit. It is not that simple! The Palm Beach County Inspector even spoke to him and tried to arrange the inspection. He refused to do it until the balance was paid in full, so I offered to sign a page with a notary stating I agree to pay the balance once the work passed inspection. He wouldn't do that either and didn't want to cooperate at all. I cannot find any electrician now who wants to complete the work because they re afraid to take over the work of somebody else and they don t wanna take the responsibility so I m in a big mess because of WISEMINDS Electrical terminating his contract before finishing the work."

"I hired Mike to replace both the main electrical panel and the breaker box in my home. From the initial consultation, Mike was courteous, thorough in his explanations, and provided a clear and fair estimate for the project. He handled all necessary paperwork for the HOA and city permits, making the process seamless for us. Once the permits were approved, Mike and his team completed the installation of both panels in a single day. The workmanship was exceptionally clean and professional throughout. I am extremely satisfied with the results and will not hesitate to hire Mike for any future electrical work. I highly recommend Mike and his company. His entire team is friendly, professional, and highly knowledgeable. Thank you, Mike, for a job well done "

FAQs for generator repair projects in Fort Lauderdale, FL

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
