Let me start on how professional they were in every step of the way walking me through what needed to be done. I first hired them to help me sell an old victorian home built in 1900. I had a water pipe break and flood my dining room. James cam to my home and removed all the water damage to the ceiling and walls and was very skilled to repair everything back to the way it was originally. He also helped me clear up a few points on a home inspection and the one I was most impressed with was a front door railing that he built from scratch and matched the time period with great precision. I also hired James to look at a deck on my new home in Westminster. He showed me all the damaged areas and was able to explain to me the process of repair. This was a full demo of the old deck and rebuild. I am very happy with the deck as I know now it is built correctly and safe."

"This company provided a quote for a new fiberglass pool that was 100k more than the other two companies that install Latham Pools in Massachusetts. Obviously I chose another company. Now that my pool is completed, I need to install a winter safety cover. So I submitted a request for a quote with McCarthy. Someone politely gets back to me and asked me to provide additional information so they could “provide a quote right away” which I do. I got an email back. 15 minutes later saying that now they won’t quote me because I didn’t have my pool installed by them. Insisting that in the last 15 minutes they decided to only install winter covers on pools that they installed. Clearly, this action was retaliatory as they are upset that they weren’t able to take advantage of me for an additional hundred thousand dollars. It’s also really poor business form that you’re not even going to compete for my maintenance business because of your hubris. Since installing my pool, I enjoyed telling people that I saved 100K by avoiding McCarthy. N now I get to add to my story! Not only are they trying to rip people off, but they get mad when customers catch them price gouging. If you’re looking for a Lathan pool, there are much more cost-effective options as there are two other installers are located in Massachusetts. My suggestion would be to make sure you get a quote from all three."

The best pool deck material depends on your needs and preferences. If you’re looking for a low-cost option for an in-ground pool, poured concrete or pavers are a good way to reduce costs. If you want a luxurious look for your above- or in-ground pool deck (and don’t mind regular maintenance), hardwood could be the best option. If you’re looking for the best of both worlds, low-maintenance, durable composite might be the right choice.
For a pool deck of 100 to 300 square feet, expect a professional installation to take at least five to seven days. It may take even longer if you need extensive site prep, hardscaping, or tree removal, or if there are delays in getting a permit. If you’re building a very complex, elevated, or multi-level pool deck, expect the project to take two to four weeks.
The best way to clean most pool decks of grime is with a pressure washer, though you’ll need to research the material of your deck to make sure you don’t damage it. Always pretreat the surface with the proper cleaning agent and test your pressure washer on a small area before cleaning the whole thing.
If you want a proportionate pool deck with lots of room to relax, simply make it the same square footage as your pool. If you instead want a walk-around pool deck, first take the length and width of your pool (e.g., 10’ x 20’), add four feet to each side (i.e., 18’ x 28’), and subtract the area of your pool (10 ’x 20’ = 200 square feet) from the total area (18’ x 28’ = 504 square feet). The resulting number (304 square feet) is the square footage of your walkaround pool deck.
