"We used Radon Abatement Services for our basement. The radon levels were slightly over the EPA recommended limit. We mitigated the radon as part of a larger basement renovation. Radon Abatement Services worked with our General Contractor and did a great job. Radon levels are vastly reduced now as a result of their work."

Customers say: Quick response

"After my basement test come back with significantly elevated radon, I contacted radon abatement services at the recommendation of a neighbor. A day and a half later, they were on site. While performing the initial walk through, the experienced and thoughtful professionals adapted their plan to utilize my sump pump. This was an effective strategy as it addressed the main source of radon and concealed the system in completely unfinished space. I just received my post mitigation radon results, and the system is working phenomenally. To sum it up, I was blown away by the responsiveness, thoughtfulness, and reasonableness and can't say enough positive things about this company. I don't ever post reviews, but in this circumstance I absolutely had to."

"<p>I think I found them on Angie's List. They have been fantastic during our home renovation process. I keep putting them on hold, but I have built a relationship with them and they have been so patient and good throughout the whole thing. They have come out multiple times to help me with our previous contractor and current contractor for the remodeling. They have been great. They came out, met with my new contractor and it cost me nothing. They have been in constant contact with me regarding the status. They prepared for the states when I asked them to be ready to do the asbestos abatement. That was a part of the first stage of my remodeling project. Their pricing has been very reasonable. They did an assessment not just of the cost for the work, which they revised based on what the insurance company had told them to change. They have engaged with the insurance company, they have engaged with my remodelers and have come out without even charging us. The work that we have paid them for was just one time testing. This was the second test versus the first test we had. They do asbestos testing and asbestos removal.    </p>"

"I called Rodolfo on a Friday because my radon mitigation system (installed by a different company) was in need of repair. He was able to come by the next day, on Saturday morning, and quickly identified the problem and was able to fix it."

"As part of a deck remodeling project, we wanted to relocate the radon system to vent through another side of our house. When Mike came over, he noticed that we had an existing but unused pipe that the builders installed for radon (but never connected to) which ran from the basement to the attic. He proposed that instead of venting through another side of the house, we could connect to that unused pipe and add a fan in the attic to vent through the attic and roof. The work was done professionally, and the crew left no mess inside. Their knowledge and experience left us with a better result than we originally envisioned. Will definitely use again in the future."

"Bob was on time, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. He performed a thorough inspection of the home and conducted a radon test. He spent a lot of time talking with us and explaining his findings. He also helped us out after the inspection by providing information about building code and safety when the seller questioned if some of the requested repairs were required. <br /> I think he may be a bit more pricey than other inspection services (we paid $640 for inspection + radon test), but the value he provides is well worth the price. Would absolutely use him again in the future and recommend him without any reservations. Should also add that he accommodated our tight timeline and came out on a weekend with only a couple days notice. He's great! <br />"

"Mr. Benner has been in business for 16 years and he still has the energy of a new business entrepreneur. He was recommended by the radon level testing company we secured to test our newly built home, which was completed in September 2014. Our levels were in the and quot;7and quot; level, only about 2x the level recommended for active remediation. According to Mr. Benner, he has remediated buildings with levels above 100 in the past. He was very professional, knowledgeable, punctual, flexible and informative. I highly recommend Mr. Benner and his company for your radon remediation projects. <br /> He also provided as part of the remediation cost, a radon level detection kit with pre-paid postage to be sent to an evaluation company, the results of which were to be emailed back to me. Essentially, he provided a test-based assurance that his work met the standards he'd specified. <br />"

"We hired Greg Kemp before purchasing an older (part is 1850-ish) farm house on land in Frederick County, MD.  He agreed to come on short notice on a holiday weekend because time limits were tight.  We received cost estimates in advance, signed a thorough contract, and were very happy that the inspection would be finished timely. Our agreement was for an inspection report, a termite inspection, a more thorough roof inspection, and a structural/engineering report.  He was one of very few people who had the engineering qualifications we were looking for, since there was an old stone foundation we particularly wanted examined. Mr. Kemp arrived a bit early and spent more than four hours, even including a barn in the process.  Due to Covid procedures, we were not allowed to accompany him inside the house or basement, but he did call us in individually to point out some important issues.  He communicated with us briefly during the inspections, but spent more time at the end telling us some of his findings.  We received  all reports via email by the end of the following day, including recommendations based on Condition of many separate parts of the house interior and exterior, with pictures, well organized and very useful for first making our decision to purchase and then prioritizing future maintenance and repairs needed.   I highly recommend Kemp Home Inspections, LLC, and would happily contract with them again, since they provide additional services which we may need in the future. And, if you enjoy a very understated subtle sense of humor, this is definitely your person.  "

"It went very well. I HIGHLY recommend Home Detective. You can tell from the first phone contact with Robert that he knows what is doing. <br /> He was very professional on the phone and during the inspection. <br /> <br /> Robert thoroughly inspected every corner of the house and found areas of concern including gas leak, running toilet, water damage in the kitchen and much more which can be easily overlooked  <br /> <br /> More importantly, he showed me how save a lot of money on utilities bills (electric and water) and  took the time to explain every aspect of the findings. Frankly, this inspection was like a training session for me. Robert is knowledgeable and passionate about what it does. <br /> <br /> I will do business again with Robert and Highly recommend him to every one."

"Everything went very well.  Not only was the inspection satisfactory, but the inspector also pointed out other potential problems that could cause further damage to the building in the future.  He also gave me tips on mold control and how to get rid of it and a lesson on convector units.  He was punctual, courteous, and knowledgeable.  I was thoroughly satisfied with his assessment and would highly recommend the company to acquaintances and friends.  I would recommend that in the future the company give the client an idea of when to expect the electronic report."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Frederick, MD

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
