"It was supposed to be a simple faucet replacement but my old plumbing turned out to be incompatible with the new fixture. Seth diagnosed the problem gave me a very reasonable new price, bought new materials and solved it in short order. All done with a completely professional and friendly manner. I highly recommend SWB Plumbing."

"I've been using Wayne's Plumbing & Heating since 1986! Great company, great service. They've done everything from solving/repairing plumbing problems to installing a new furnace, a new water heater, and a Rinnai heater. I'd never call anyone else. I'm on my 3rd generation with them. It's truly a family business. The best!"

"A member of my household accidentally drilled a hole into a pipe that comes up into the baseboard forced hot water heaters in my home office. We were able to shut off water to that area though there was still quite a bit that leaked down into basement. We also had to shut the heat off to that zone which covers the basement and all of first floor. Being a Saturday in October, in Maine, I was really worried about getting somebody out and keeping house warm. After leaving VMs for a couple different plumbers, a friend suggested Tim and gave me his number. It was already getting into the evening and he promised to be out in the morning. Relief! He showed up on time, very friendly, work was completed in under 2 hrs. He charged us normal rates even though it was a Sunday morning plus parts. We chatted for a while and he said he services a regular list of clients each year for scheduled maintenance on furnaces and does the kind of repairs that we had as opposed to large contractor jobs so that he is more available for smaller jobs and his regular clients. I'm so glad he was recommended to us because we were pretty much at the mercy of whoever might come out and could have been charged a fortune or had to wait a much longer time. It was nice to have somebody be so responsive and understanding after making a mistake like that and the mess that followed. I would highly recommend him and he would be the first person I would call for home plumbing issues. Thank you Tim! <br /> <br />"

"Great. Mike was gracious both on the phone and in person. He found an issue and tried various solves to fully scope the pipes. He offered additional thoughts on other pipes he saw in the crawl space. He videotapes the scope and provides a cd to the customer. He was referred to me by my sister and I would definitely hire him again. Next time I do this, I will schedule sewer scope and home inspection at different times."

"<p>I initially called him on 7/25/14 because I was concerned about a too loose spout that had leaked previously possibly leaking again, within 30 days of closing on the house. He returned my call within a few hours and scheduled to come out the very next morning at 8 am. He arrived and very nicely took off his shoes when I asked him too! This is a big deal to me because I have whitish carpets that were in the house when I bought it, and they show every possible little speck of dirt (I hate carpet!!). He went upstairs and looked at the spout and said it was not good grade stainless steel metal, and took it off and scraped of the caulk I had added with a razor and left no marks on the shower wall which I was very happy with. He then installed the new spout, heavily caulking everything explaining the logic of everything as he went. He then added more caulk to the back of shower unit and then tested the whole works. It looked good. </p> <p> Then, being scared of anything that doesn't look right, I noticed that a small amount of water would come from the spout when the shower was engaged. I called him, on 7/31/14 and he returned my call that night, and came the next morning on 8/1/14 looked at and said that was normal and to call him if ever had any other concerns. </p> <p> He was very prompt, professional, and quick. I also liked how he explained everything and answered all my questions. I would definitely call him again. </p> <br />"

"I have hired this firm repeatedly over the past fifteen years. In the past 14 months, in a and quot;new to meand quot; house there has been a lot to do. When they came out last summer to help with some initial challenges, they remembered my interest in energy conservation, asked if I was interested in the hybrid electric hot water option, provided follow up information and pricing by mail (including a brochure from Efficiency Maine about the product and rebate options). After I decided to proceed they were prompt to order and install the product. It has operated well ever since and I have been very pleased. I also saved a lot of money this summer because I did not need to run the furnace to have hot water available. They are always efficient, timely, knowledgeable, and competitively priced. <br />"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Freeport, ME

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
