"Wonderful planning, and performance of all the following: Remove all of the soil in our gardens to a depth of 20 inches, install a chemical root barrier, install new irrigation valves, and a new drip system. Replace all the soil with new planting soil, install a weed barrier, remove and replace Arizona Flagstone stepping stones, plant 70 new plants, fertilize plantings and cover with new mulch. Alejandro and Ignacio Sandovalale are wonderful landscapers and I recommend them to anyone looking for honest hardworking professionals. We are having them come back on a monthly basis. "Ken and Emily did a complete relandscaping of our property. They made a plan as to what plants would be removed, then removed them, replaced much of the soil, built an irrigation system and installed it, and then filled our yard with the most wonderful plants. We worked with them to figure out what plants would be suitable for our yard, both in aesthetics as well as functionality, and they positioned everything to maximize beauty and plant health. They were very detail oriented. They brought in a fence expert to fix our fences before replacing the soil. The yard was full of way too many decorative rocks, and rather than the easy thing of throwing them out and buying new ones, they cleaned the existing rocks and reused them. The new plants they installed are perfect for us - the new landscape is a dream come true, and I can't wait to see how things look after everything grows in. Ken and Emily were also very friendly and easy to work with. They got along really well with our family. We feel fortunate that they could work with us."

"Gomer Basave brought a team of three to four men to construct a 180 foot trench for proper drainage from the landscaped garden to the back of the property. It took six days to build the trench as well as lay the pipes and test the water flow. Throughout the construction, the team worked hard to create the trench and the work was supervised by visits from Basave to the site. Starting with the estimate and proceeding with the work, Gomer Basave was an approachable, responsible and honest contractor who worked with his team to complete the project. The job was not an easy job but Gomer and his crew worked continuously to create a trench that could transport water away from the house. We greatly appreciated working with Gomer and his crew and hope we have the chance to work with them again on other projects. "

"I needed an entire makeover in my front yard after our massive 60 year old Modesto Ash tree was removed due to a split trunk. It just did not look very nice without it, which gave us the opportunity to improve on the landscape. I drew up plans of what I wanted and started contacting landscapers for estimates. I decided on Carrillo Landscape which I am happy I did. Oscar (owner) came out and looked at what I wanted, made some good suggestions to improve on my plans and gave me a very reasonable estimate. They did all demo and removed the many roots left from our tree and graded the property flat again. His crew installed new irrigation and drip system and a new sod lawn. I also had them pour new cement walkways on both sides of the house. He even planted two 15 gallon trees and placed all bender boarder and bark chips. It came out beautiful. It took longer than expected, but they stuck to it and finished the job even through the 100 degree heatwave. Everything was done perfectly to my sketch. They really paid attention to the details and stuck to the estimate. The best part was their workers cleaned up at the end of the day above and beyond what I expected. Very fair and reasonable. Great communication as Qscar answered all my questions promptly during the process and took care of any issues. I would highly recommend Carrillo Landscaping."

FAQs for sod installation projects in Fremont, CA

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
