"Jim and partner Don, and their crew did a fantastic, professional job.  From the detailed estimate to the finished product, they were prompt and kept us informed of when they would be working, when any problems or changes needed to be discussed, and even detected and fixed very inexpensively a structural problem with our deck.  They redesigned our stairs off our deck to provide access to both the yard and the area below the deck.  It is very functional and solid. No problems at all.  They also built and installed two gates on the stairs to keep our dog corralled.  We looked into others for this work and found them to be reasonably priced and highly recommended.  They even took us to another job site to show us the quality of their work.  Jim is truly a quality professional and individual and has provided other advise about some home issues.  If you call him, you will be very impressed and happy you did.  I highly recommend him.

"Freewalt Builders did our extensive remodeling project and did a generally excellent job.  The demolition involved taking down and hauling off a suspended concrete patio, fireplace and gutting the den, laundry area, kitchen and a bathroom all down to the studs.  They pulled all that off, especially breaking up and hauling off that massive suspended concrete patio creatively and inexpensively.  Many structural repairs were needed due to leakage around the old fireplace, etc.  Nothing fazed them.  
We had drawn floor plans, deck plans and electrical/gas/water plans for the rebuild.  There were some challenges, like the spot where we were going to need a very long laminated beam to support the upstairs as we were pulling out a 16? run of the outside wall.  They handled it all easily.  Art and co. made some good suggestions for tweaks in a few cases, including getting the maximum square footage gain out of the effort.  He brought in good craftsmen for the custom cabinetry (excellent job by John Robertson) and counters (another excellent job by John Baker ? Top That LLC).  Good tile and finishing work, and good painting.  Appliance installations went well.  We put on a multi-level deck around the new expanded areas and decided to go with cedar on all of the visible surfaces and pressure-treated pine for the support posts and underpinnings.  Art found a good cedar supplier which helped with the cost quite a bit.  He might have gone a little over the top dressing up the deck woodwork, but I have to say it?s pretty.  All of the things they built, from the footing for the new sunroom on up to the roof, and everything in between, are built to last.  You could park an Abrams tank on that deck!
Things to watch out for: We are in Little Rock.  Art and his crew and other subcontractors are all from Hot Springs Village and Hot Springs.  Since we ended up doing this over the winter (mid-Nov ?13 to mid-May ?14) there were many weather-related delays as they simply could not get here from there.  So plan your project accordingly.  I think we were Art?s first venture into Little Rock, so we had to help quite a bit with orienting him to local suppliers.  But he has a lot of experience with that now!  Finally, they got a bit too much going on during about the middle of the project, making for inconsistent crew and supervisor from one day to the next, and some low-results days.  So we would tell one person (or Art) a particular, then find it being done differently, and have to re-do.  That problem got better before the end of the project, though.  Between that and the uncooperative winter weather, it took longer than it ought to have.  Which can translate to more $.  I think things might have gone more smoothly if the same senior person had been on site week in and week out, as much as possible.  
All in all, we are very pleased with the results!

Mr. Burks knows about asbestos abatement and how to carry it out according to the protocol required by state law. In Arkansas, state law requires you to have a third party to measure and approve the air quality when removing asbestos. Sure enough, a third party EPA employee arrived in his own vehicle and watched the process from start (prepping the house to secure it from escaping hazardous dust) to finish (measuring the final air quality for approval). Airtecs Environmental then bags everything to be taken to a special hazardous waste site. So it is from cradle to grave. The whole process is documented in paper work and that is peace of mind. Mr. Burks’ team were good natured and hardworking. In addition to the ceiling the team removed the shag carpet and foam as I was looking to remove it. They saved me so much time and backbreaking work! And as for the house well, I cannot express how amazing the air quality is! If you are still unsure read the long of it below and save yourself the time. I wanted to remove an Asbestos ceiling that was showing signs of damage due to shifting foundation. Between the ceiling and the old shag carpet I was concerned about my father’s air quality. Initially I was going to remove the acoustic ceiling myself, but after researching about this hazardous material it became clear that removing Asbestos responsibly was the best way to guarantee a safe space in the future. Now, it is strangely difficult to find a good Abatement team, considering how many houses must have this issue. Calling Airtecs Environmental, I was impressed with how easy they were to contact and quick in respond to my requests. Based my research about asbestos abatement procedures and the Arkansas State laws, it was clear that Mr. Burks was really knowledgeable with hands on experience. Because my father is retired and has a small budget, I called other companies to get a few quotes based on our square footage. Here is what we encountered. There were cowboy removal services, with prices that seemed too good to be true. Well yeah, they were basically offering a regular popcorn removal, avoiding paperwork, with no guarantees for air quality, and making the client dispose of the hazardous materials themselves! If you go that route, you might as well do it yourself and pay nothing. On the opposite end of the spectrum…I found most companies were completely uninterested in small homes! To illustrate this they would take days to respond to emails, and explain that they mostly work on industrial sized projects and in turn their quotes reflected industrial sized robbery. There is simply nobody else in the state willing to take on residential homes following strict procedures at a reasonable rate. I am so glad Mr. Burks and his team, are out there for the average person like me who is trying to do things the right way! Good Peoples! Thank you, thank you!"

"Service guy came as scheduled. Sent his "service" requirements to home base Home base calls back and lists, a very long list of what needs to be done and a very long list of what is not covered and what each item costs. The overall cost was outrageous and they weren't willing to give it to me in writing. Everything I had to pay for was overpriced, of course! They told me my other option would be to purchase my own water heater and they would reimburse me for what there water heater would cost, but no reimbursement for Labor, building permit, or any upgrades required by the local building department. The requirements of the building department were minimal. I went to Home Depot and had them do the installation and saved many hundreds of dollars. Lesson learned, have AHS do simpler repairs that don't require municipal building department approval. Have AHS pay for the equipment, and purchase installation from a trusted local installer."
