"Initial rep was great and informative. Felt comfortable with initial sale. Hardly had any contact from customer service except for the payments. There were several delays that we were not informed about unless we called to ask. Took 7 months before they showed up to begin project. Only 1 person was sent to build steps. Took a week. Hard worked, hardly took a break. Had to call again to see when they would come to pour patio. Never knew when they were coming, they just showed up. Hardly spoke with the homeowners. Inspection paperwork was just left on porch. Additional paperwork that is "required by the County" had to be completed by homeowner and taken to Court house to be notarized and filed and also provide a copy back to Long Fence. Time sensitive materials which added to homeowners to-do list. Gave this contract to LF on the surface of their history and appearance of a 'good local company' but should have stayed with original contactors in VA. Puddle of water forms when it rains"

"Firebelly Renovations began work in our home in January of 2018 for substantial restructuring of our master bath, kitchen, and creation of a mudroom/pantry that took space from the garage and extended the kitchen. The contract stipulated that it would take 60 calendar days. Our expectations were for the project to be completed in April, at the latest, given change orders and construction delays. Firebelly did not complete their work until November, 2018 -- TEN MONTHS LATER!! We ended up hiring a third- party contractor to complete remaining punch list items, as we had difficulty getting Firebelly to return. While we have a kitchen and bathroom that is substantially complete and we are now enjoying, getting to this point was a huge life disruption that took nearly a year. As the months dragged on, we observed questionable commitment to the work product, unreliable business practices, and poor project management. Examples follow: QUESTIONABLE COMMITMENT TO QUALITY WORK -The new flexible vent pipe they installed through the roof for our new dryer was so flawed in design and installation that it collapsed creating a water trap for the humid air (see photo). -Firebelly installed closet doors that block the full use of our new Elfa closet system. Drawers will not fully open (see photo). -In several areas, new walls are not straight, corners deviate from 90 degrees requiring modification to shelving that will be installed in the space, and drywall compound/tape and paint were applied in a sloppy manner (see photos). -Caulking in the kitchen and bathroom has already cracked (less than six months), the toilet has leaked, the shower has leaked, the vessel sinks in the bathroom are not securely fastened in place, the bathroom live-edge vanities have started to sag and need to be re-supported to their installed level (see photo). UNRELIABLE BUSINESS PRACTICES -Firebelly failed to pay a subcontractor plumber, resulting in a lien being placed on our home. We have requested paperwork to settle the matter with the plumber, but Firebelly has not provided it. -Change orders were started and sometimes completed prior to receiving our written approval, a contract stipulation. -They often cut short their 8am to 4pm work day. There were instances of Firebelly excusing themselves from our project for an entire week, giving reasons that did not sound credible. They lied to us about a family vacation in July (that delayed our project another week). We later found out that this was really an excuse for the owner to work on other projects. POOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT -Firebelly made numerous miscalculations on the quantity of product needed. For example, bathroom floor tiling required three separate trips to the store, each time to order more based upon their calculations. Yet, when we returned in August from an overseas trip, we were informed that the tile design was not completed as planned as they did not have enough tile!! -Based on their calculations, we over purchased special-order tile and could not return it, costing us over $200. Another tile store had to make an exception to their return policy because we had exceeded their six-month limit for returns - otherwise, this would have cost us several hundred dollars. -Items, such as kitchen appliances, cabinets, tile, etc., were ordered so they would be available when needed and sat in our living room and garage for months until Firebelly made enough progress to install them. -Subcontractors were hired only as the project proceeded, introducing delays and resulting in variations in cost. Many more frustrations and observations could be listed. This was an ordeal that overtook our lives for the better part of year. We began to wonder if Firebelly had ever done a job of this size before as they did not appear to have the staff or the systems in place to address the challenges of this job. We would not recommend Firebelly for any substantial home renovation."

"Mr. Naty is a wonderful person with whom to work. He visited to secure measurements and design ideas more than once regarding the front walkway railings we wanted. He understood that we wanted the railings to provide safety while elevating the look of our front entry. The price for the work was more reasonable than other estimates received. Mr. Naty and his team installed the railings and we are so pleased with the exquisite design!!! We highly recommend Mr. Naty of Naty Iron Works!!!!"

"We selected Abbey Design Center (ADC) to do a complete remodel of our master bathroom and our guest bathroom. We could not have made a better decision!! The ADC Team was nothing short of phenomenal. Consummate professionals in their areas of expertise, each team member added their personal touch to our project resulting in a finished product that left us and everyone who’s seen it in awe. The overall process was straight forward and completely stress-free. After an initial visit at the Sterling showroom, Jimmie came to our home and carefully listened to our specific thoughts about what we wanted for the bathroom remodeling. He explained the ADC process, provided several insightful design suggestions and then worked with Justin to develop and deliver a five-star layout design and price estimate in just a few days. Jimmie presented and explained the layout and estimate and thoroughly answered all our questions. After we approved the layout, Zee spent 90 minutes with us at the Leesburg showroom going over every aspect of the interior design. Like every other member of the ADC Team, she started by listening to our thoughts about what we liked/wanted. Then she carefully provided us logical alternatives for every interior design detail, with each successive design alternative building on our previous choices. She used the Design Center resources to provide and show us tangible building materials like the floor and wall tiles, paint colors, and everything else right down to the drawer handles. Once we completed our choices, she compiled and provided us a binder of detailed information and descriptions (i.e., manufacturer, part number, size, etc.) for every item of the interior design. This reference binder will provide us a means to easily replace, refurbish, or upgrade any of the hardware, tiles, paint etc. that might need attention at some future date. Next, Robert developed a project schedule and coordinated all of the trade personnel to efficiently gut and then rebuild each bathroom. As the project manager, Robert was solely responsible for execution and quality of the work; he did his job fantastically. Robert was always available and listened respectfully to any thoughts/questions/issues that we had and provided answers/solutions in a very timely manner. The ADC work crews were great! They arrived on time, were congenial, completed their work with minimum disruption, and left the areas around the work site neat and free of excessive dust at the end of each day. Every member of the ADC Team made us feel like we were their most important/only client. They were respectful and highly professional. Best of all, they lived up to every promise and delivered an outstanding product on time and for the exact quoted price; there were no hidden surprises. We absolutely love our new bathrooms!!! We will definitely recommend Abbey Design Center to our family, friends, and neighbors. ADC is our choice for any/all future home remodeling projects."

FAQs for wainscoting installation projects in Gainesville, VA

Wainscoting is decorative paneling that covers the lower part of a wall for style and protection. Beadboard is a type of wainscoting made of long vertical planks with small raised beads between each board. You’ll see it on walls and ceilings when homeowners want added depth and charm. Both options work indoors or outdoors; beadboard pieces lock together with tongue-and-groove joints, while similar styles, such as shiplap, rely on a square rabbet joint.

The best rule of thumb for wainscoting is to stop the panels at about one-third of the wall height. In a room with a nine-foot ceiling, that’s roughly three feet up. Sticking to this ratio keeps the room balanced, lets plenty of wall color show above the trim, and delivers a polished, timeless look.

Wainscoting can make a room look smaller if the room has low ceilings. The same rule applies to wainscoting as it does to painting any space: to make the room look larger and more open, paint it a light color, such as white or cream. Since beadboard incorporates vertical lines in the paneling, this style of wainscoting is ideal for those wanting to make a room appear larger than it is.

Technically, you can panel any room, but wainscoting shines in open areas, such as a foyer or a tall-ceilinged bathroom. Skip it in small rooms with low ceilings—panels can make tight spaces feel boxed in. Open-concept layouts without clear stopping points along the walls are also tricky, as the trim requires a distinct beginning and end.

Removing existing wall panels before installing wainscoting involves distinct demolition efforts. The cost to hire a professional for demo work is $1.50 per square foot. If the underlying drywall requires replacement after panel removal, an additional fee of $1.60 to $2.35 per square foot is incurred. Completing these tasks properly ensures a sturdy foundation and a flawless finish.
