We took the advice of dryer vent wizard and had a new vent installed to the side of the dryer directly to the outside. He also cleaned the lint from the dryer. "The 2 techs first showed up after my dryer had died and cleaned the vents (inside - out and also from outside-in) as much as they could but said they needed me to have an operating dryer so that they could make sure everything was pushed out the side vent and airflow was good. They were very knowledgeable and honest which I appreciate when hiring any company without a first hand recommendation from my own friends/relatives first. They rescheduled a follow up appointment after my new dryer was delivered and were here the same morning and finished the cleaning and confirmed that everything was cleaned and working as it should now. "It was completed. How well it was done, remains to be seen. Thank goodness I was home, but the crew showed up 6 hours early, which fortunately worked out. The crew was very professional and nice, and explained things. Why I say it remains to be seen how well they did is because I know the ducts have not been cleaned in years; shame on me and the previous owners. However, when I was the amount of dirt that was disposed, it did not seem like a lot of dirt. I base this on the internal pictures that the crew and the man who inspected our heater took of the duct."

Requested quote. Good communication and scheduling process. Not cheap but reasonable price for the work done clearing out a 28 ft dryer vent that exists above the second story. Reasonable enough to do on their recommended every other year schedule. The cleaning made a mess outside but they cleaned everything up. They even reattached the dryer with a new flex duct. "The technician, David, arrived on time, and the company gave me the heads-up beforehand that I had requested. He went right to work, looking at the clog in my dryer (it had stopped several days earlier and the fault code told me there was a blockage), and then setting up his ladder to do the cleaning from the vent outside. He explained the process so I knew what he would be doing, and didn't seem to mind that I watched him closely. First thing we saw was a sparrow fly out of the vent, so as he noted, we could expect a bird nest. He then proceeded to pull out about a foot of nest material (thankfully only one egg and no babies). After he got out all of the big stuff, he ran a brush all the way to the dryer. Running the dryer then pushed out all of the lint. He bagged up as much as he could and took it away, but a lot of it disintegrated on touch. He assured me it would disappear in the next rain, and I'm sure it will. I then asked him about installing a bird guard, and he told me how much it would be ($85) and showed it to me. I liked the design since it does not appear it will collect lint, like one I had in a previous house, and it was metal so it should last. I had him install it. He then wrote up the invoice and I happily paid ($125 for cleaning, $85 for vent). No hidden or extra charges, no attempts to upsell. He told me that they usually recommend cleaning every two years, but given our small household size, three should probably be fine. I will be in touch with SixPenny in spring 2022."
