"Amazing. Todd Hartley and his team of professionals are top notch. I cannot recommend them enough. When I had a roof issue, Hartley was the only contractor willing to take a look the same day it was discovered (right before a very heavy rainstorm) since it had the potential to just be a minor roof repair (this was during the busy season). They came out within 2 hours, prepared to tarp the roof if necessary. Once the issue was identified, my insurance company came out to assess and totaled the roof. Based on my initial experience, I gave Hartley a call and they not only upgraded my roof to architectural shingles (instead of 3 tab, which is what I originally had), 6" gutters (instead of 5") and a thicker gauge steel roof for a bumpout roof. Hartley scheduled me within a more than reasonable timeframe during their busy season (and after several major storms) and performed the work as scheduled and on time. Each step of the way, the crew and Todd were happy to answer my numerous questions. Todd and his team are top notch. When I found issues not related to their work completed (siding issue from when it was built), Todd and his crew came out to help me fix the issue at no charge. I can honestly say that Hartley Home Exteriors cares deeply for their customers, has exceptional customer service, communicate well with their customer and amongst their team members, and Todd (the owner) stands behind his work. It says a lot when you see the owner coming out to check on not only the work being completed but also his crew. He cares about his customers and his crews and it absolutely shows based on my interactions with him. Do yourself a favor and give Hartley a call if you have any roof, siding, gutters, window, or door issues."

"I'm a relatively new homeowner, so after a storm damaged my roof, I had no idea how to get my roof repaired or how to navigate the home insurance claim nightmare. I was so grateful when my friend's husband (who is a contractor specializing in home insurance jobs) recommended I call a company local to me called American Custom Contractors. My friend's husband told me he had worked with the company previously and knew that the company had good people, does good work, and is trustworthy. I'm happy to say that he was 100% right. Initially, my home insurance company only wanted to pay to replace a few shingles on my roof, but American Custom Contractors advocated on my behalf, and we were able to get the home insurance to replace my whole roof! There was months of back and forth with the home insurance company, but American Custom Contractors really allayed my anxiety during this whole process. In fact, everyone I met and spoke to at the company knew exactly what they were doing and were polite and professional. I felt like I was in good hands during the entire process. I'm happy to say my roof is now brand new and beautiful. I highly recommend American Custom Contractors for their superb customer service and high quality work."

"We couldn't be happier with our experience with Rene. We hired him to do our kitchen tile floor and he did such a great job, we didn't hesitate to work with him again to install the wood flooring throughout the rest of our main floor. He works quickly and also pays a lot of attention to detail. He noticed a few things that weren't quite right without us pointing them out or even noticing. And he would have the fixed the next day. We would definitely consider him again if we have any projects in the future."

"Gregory's re-shingled my home about a year ago and the work was done efficiently, with high quality. The personnel were hard working and left the work site clean. Because of this positive experience, I hired them again recently to install shingles on my detached garage and gazebo to replace the wind damaged roofs. They also replaced some facia trim damaged by the wind. Jeff Gregory assisted greatly by working with the insurance company on the final estimate. This was a very positive experience."

"<p>In May 2014, I contacted the vendor through Angie's List, to provide an estimate on two projects at my home-build a screened front porch and install a cement slab with retaining wall on the back of the property.  The initial meeting took a few weeks to coordinate but I stayed with the contractor.  After the initial meeting everything was smooth and easy.  I did not have any problems or concerns with JC Smith.  The crew worked every single day once the contract was signed and both projects were completed in a month's time-they began roughly on August 1 and were done, with final inspection completed on 8/27/2014.  JC Smith handled all of the permitting and inspections and were very engaged in our projects.  The crew was professional and courteous and very respectful of our property and noise levels.  They asked permission for everything.  All sub-contractors that came in (electrical, landscaping) were equally wonderful and I am extremely satisfied with the work.  The front porch is amazing and the quality of the construction cannot be beat.  It was completed exactly to our specifications and then some.  The crew was willing to do whatever it took to ensure we were pleased and it is a job well done.  If you are looking for a contractor that will do as they say, this is the contractor for you-costs were a bit high, but for the lack of headaches and worry, it was worth every penny.  I was worried about hiring a contractor as we have been do-it-yourselfers forever, but this project required it and we had a great experience.  JC Smith's personnel respond quickly to emails and phone calls and address all concerns and questions promptly.  Quality work, fair price-WELL DONE!</p> <br />"

"Mike Fusco is an excellent builder and contractor. He built a house for me and a house for my daughter immediately afterwards. Mike was the ultimate professional. He was thorough and conscientious and demanded good work from his workers. Additional, he did his best to make sure that the job was done within budget without cutting corners. I would recommend Mike to anyone who needed a good builder."

"Day one went fantastic.  Butch and Brad arrived on time and went straight to work doing all of the jack hammering and other prep work for the installers.  They were both very proactive in identifying potential issues with things they weren't even working on as well as keeping us posted throughout the day with what they were doing and what we should expect.  They were great. <br /> Day two was ok.  Had a new Crew with Corey as the lead and he did a decent job of answering my questions.  The crew was removing all of the concrete and installing the drains and sump pump, so it was a fairly labor filled day.  <br /> Day three was the exact opposite of what we experienced on day one.  Corey was the lead again and it was clear that the new crew that day wanted to go home.  They were very rushed and a lot of sloppy work was done.  There was no walk through of what we should do now, how to operate the sump pump/Blue Canyon....just packed up and left.  When the Blue Canyon was installed, we were never informed that a large pipe would be sticking out of our floor, nor that it would be as loud as it is.  The attitude of the gentlemen installing it was like "oh well."  They eventually moved the pipe away from the wall, but they weren't happy about it.  Upon further inspection, there was a lot of sloppy work.  All of the finishing work was very poorly done.  ie: concrete work had divots in the floor, could see daylight around the pipes going out of the house, concrete was rough and not smooth, Blue Canyon pipe outside wasn't fastened to the house properly.  It just looked bad! After three weeks, everything was addressed and fixed.  It was just unfortunate that it was required. <br /> Overall, I think the sump pump is fine.  It's only been a few weeks since its been installed.  We are, however, very disappointed with the Blue Canyon system.  It is fairly loud and you really can't turn it off.  Plus, there is a pipe sticking out of my floor that is pretty ugly.  Had I known that was necessary, we would not have gotten it.  If their entire team could be made up of Butch, Brad, and Mike (one of the guys who came out to fix the sloppy work) this would have been a completely different experience. <br />"

"Christian Siding came highly recommend for their quality work, and follow-up services. And my experience with them did not disappoint me for their repair work they did on my property last year, and this year as well. In both cases, everyone at Christian Siding have been courteous and professional. The workers who came out to our property last year were very pleasant. The team leader was willing to do a more work than what was required (moving things around for esthetics). I wasn't expecting it, but I really appreciated that he cared more about how my house would than I did. There was more damage this year due to the crazy weather, and I am looking forward their work again. Overall, I am glad to have found this company, and will recommend them highly to anyone looking for work done at their house."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Gerrardstown, WV

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
