"i hired them to replace approximately 32 double hung windows. the price was as good as any and i was in no mood to haggle. the process was very clearly spelled out and the prep that i would have to do was, as well. there were a few snags with them getting the windows (due to supply chain issues that everyone was having) so the dates changed, but i was involved in those changes. when they did start, they got most of the work done on the first day and came back to finish the next day. a few things went wrong, a window was broken, another had a scratch, and many of the windows were over-caulked to the point of being awful looking. the broken window was addressed even before i brought it up, as was the crack. when i told them about the caulking they sent someone the very next day and told me the installation crew had used the wrong caulk (outside caulk) and that they would be back to fix it. they did.... there were a few more windows after that i saw too much caulking on, and they've come out to redo those, too. All in all, their service is amazing. there were so many people involved who deserve a shout out, but i can't recall their names. my team leader or manager was Michael and he was a gem. i wouldn't say the product i bought is the best; the corners aren't perfect and the glass fogs up (i'll let Presidential know when i have a minute), but the windows work great and they look exactly like what i wanted. i was so thrilled with them, that i ordered a replacement for my front door with sidelights and transom! the price was comparable and i already knew what kind of service i was going to get. And i did!"

"They were very responsive to my phone call, promptly went out to look at the roof and gave me a reasonable price. Some roofers would not return my call, others said it would take a month to get to the work. Andre at Springfield was flexible with me and responded to my texts and calls incredibly promptly. "I had another company come out and verify that I needed to have work done on my roof and had confirmed I'd need to replace the roof. After reaching out to a number of companies only Certified was able to provide me the comfort of excellent communication (many didn't have the courtesy to reply to my inquiries) and references to sign on the dotted line. They were one of the few companies that had expertise with flat roofs as well as shingle and were able to work around my roof mounted HVAC unit by moving it as needed. They installed a white Mule Hide TPO roof on my main roof as well as on my addition and replaced the roofs for my front porch (which has started to leak and wasn't draining into the gutter) as well as my steep mansard roof. One company I dealt with in the initial phase was unwilling to answer questions I had with regard to the CRRC ratings of the TPO but Certified was always upfront with me and provided me with continuous updates as the work progressed, all via email and by phone. I'd originally expected to have shingles on the former BUR roof on my addition, but the crew determined that a flat roof was more appropriate and replaced it with TPO, with an explanation for their change and at no additional cost. The warranties provided as well as the licensure and insurance were a critical factor to my selection (too many companies seem to be operating in a legal gray area) and I don't expect to have any problems with the work completed, but if I do I know they stand behind their work."

"The crew from Chevy Chase Remodeling did an excellent job replacing my damaged kitchen ceiling, cabinets and counters. The crew was dependable, professional and courteous. They made adjustments for small space misalignments that had not been foreseen, followed through on punch list items and kept costs within the exact range of original quotes. "To be completely upfront, I should first make it clear that I did not have any work done, my comments are strictly based on the estimate/initial home visit. I also want to start with a few positive things that I did like about this encounter. First, I believe this business is based in Southern Maryland or someplace well outside the beltway, so I greatly appreciated that he drove all the way to my home just for an estimate. Secondly, I appreciated that he showed up on time, which is important for me as I have a bit of a tight work schedule. Lastly, I should note that he did seem to know his stuff, and understood what I wanted to have done. But here are the concerning things: First, as soon as he arrived, he immediately began pointing out other issues that were not directly related to the porch, such as noticing that some of the trim around one of my upstairs windows was rotting, and that there were a couple of missing shingles on my roof (gee thanks, I also have a hole in my left sock, want to talk about that too?). This really wasn't a major issue, but it was an immediate indication that he was fishing for extra projects. Later, after assessing the kind of work that would need to be done to the porch, he quoted me $18k, which at first appeared fairly reasonable. But after asking a few more questions, I learned that this estimate would not include any of the paperwork necessary for required permits, or even a drawling/sketch. He recommended that I do the paperwork/permit myself if I wanted to keep the price at 18k. I asked him how much more he would charge if I took care of everything except for the required drawling, he said that alone would cost an additional $2,000! By this point, I was getting a little nervous and wanted to make sure I had the specifics nailed down. So I asked if he would provide me the price in writing. He immediately said that he would not provide anything in writing, and that if I had any doubts about his work, I should look at the reviews on angles list! I don't care if someone has a 1,000 positive reviews, any contractor worth your business should always provide you an estimate in writing, and they should be completely upfront about any additional costs. Perhaps he's good at what he does, maybe I would have loved his work, but it's just not worth the risk."
