"I can not say enough positive things about Mark Patrick owner of Affordable Concrete! I called him early on Monday, by 12:30 he was at my house to give me a quote. It was a fair price and I hired him. He told me he would be at my house at 6:30am on Wednesday, two days later!! He showed up on time, went right to work and completed the patio promptly. I am very pleased with his work, it is exactly what I wanted. He was very kind, and polite. He cleaned up great after the job was complete. I would absolutely hire Mike again for any concrete jobs!!!!"

"I purchased a home that was on foreclosure. It hadn't been occupied for about 10 months. There were all kinds of plants and stuff growing in the yard including bamboo. It was awful. Matt Stone came out and transformed the whole house in the front and the back. Everybody said wow because the house looked really good. The house is only 5 years old. The neighbors said that the house never looked that great from the time it was built. They did the job in the first week of October. They charged me $9800. Matt Stone was hands on. He was there everyday. He had people working for him, but he did a lot of work himself. There was attention to detail on what I wanted and what I desired. I didn't have to make all the decisions. He helped me with the decisions on different plants because I had so much going on in my house. He was great. I had a situation where I had some bamboo coming back. He told me that it was going to come back, but I called him back out. He came back out and he did some more work on the yard. So, there were no problems. I thought that the price was excellent. When I first started out, the prices I got from contractors were from $12000 to $13000. When I settled down with Matt, it was $7800. He made a recommendation on my swing set because of how big my swing set was. It was huge. He said that if I put it, it would be larger than the roof top in the front of the house and the neighbors might get mad. So, he cut out some of the landscape and put a retention wall up. That was an additional $1800, but it was well worth it. That's what drove up my price. The quality of his work was outstanding. My neighbors complimented on his work. He came right out. Initially, he wasn't going to get started for another two or three days. He came out on a Sunday. He took a week and three days and I was surprised by that. He was extremely professional the entire time. He brought in samples for everything he was going to do to get my opinion on it. I would definitely use his services in the future too and there is no doubt about it."

"Elliot and his crew showed up as scheduled. They had some difficulties with the old slab being so porous, but worked through the day to get it right. The color came out great, but the gloss layer did not last. After discussing this with Elliot, he stated it was most likely due to the very old and porous slab. Elliot and his crew came back to the house, re sanded the floor and put a thin top layer on the slab. He stained and sealed the floor with a high gloss finish. He did all this at no cost to me and the final product came out great."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Grand Bay, AL

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
