"Easy process from quote to work complete. The crew worked on a few small projects -- fixed a damaged wall, repaired flooring, and installed a new toilet."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Rufino is skilled, honest, fair, and easy to work with. He has given us a fair price with every job he's done for us. He responds promptly, arrives on time, and works quickly and efficiently. Rufino has always been the first person we call if anything needs to be repaired in our house. At first we just used to call him for big jobs like remodeling. Recently we called him to fix toilet leaks, remove cabinetry shelves, install a ceiling light, the list goes on. He is FANTASTIC!!"

"Working with Overstate was the right choice. I had 3 companies coming in and giving me quotes to replace the entire roof , including installing new plywood since it was a cedar shake . Yani walked me through the whole process, we improved the venting which was a good thing and I got a brand new Owens Corning shingle roof . I?ll definitely recommend to friends and neighbours . "

Customers say: Terrific value

"Arnaldo was the only pro that responded to me and I am thankful he did. Arnaldo was/is (the project is no finished yet - waiting for materials) one other the most honest and truthful contractors I have ever dealt with. I had extensive water damage to a room that had to be taken to stud inside and out to repair the damage. Arnaldo always presented multiple options as we discovers more damage and I felt he was working on his home as he was performing the repairs. He, and his assistant, were/ are conscientious, neat, organized, and communicate throughout the process. I highly recommend Arnaldo Duarte. We will have Arnaldo back to perform more work after this project. Donâ t make the mistake of not hiring Arnaldo."

Customers say: Quick response

"Nathan does tremendous work, at a fair price, and in a timely manner. We had a section of our exterior rot out under our siding and he made the necessary repairs with a quick turn around, and also took steps to mitigate the risk of this issue occuring again. We would recommend Nathan to our friends and family any day."

"I hired them to repair/ reinforce our deck. I liked at least 3 things about them: 1) Reliable. High quality workmanship. Attention to detail. Found the issues we did not notice before. Went to Home Depot a couple of times to get materials we would need for the project. 2) Professional. Showed up on time. Courteous and polite. English not the best but still tried to communicate well. 3) Clean. Cleaned up and took away the construction trash after they finished the project. I'd recommend them strongly."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Greenwich, CT

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
