"On a whim I decided to check our radon levels in our basement. I guess I assumed this would have been done by the previous homeowner. Apparently one should never assume. My test game back at 5.9 pCi/L. The acceptable level is 4. And I wasn't going to chance my family's health. So I did my research on radon mitigation and sent a quote request through Angi's platform. I received a phone call the owner, John Spokis within 30 minutes on the Friday before New Year's. He explained the entire process and provided me transparent pricing over the phone and in writing via email same day. He was able to schedule us that Monday after New Year's. The installer Derek called me an hour before arrival to let me know he was on his way. He arrived on time, explained the work that was to be performed, reviewed the location with me and made sure I approved of everything before he started. The installation itself took about two hours. This included patching some cracks we had in our concrete at no additional charge. Frankly, I wasn't terribly excited about having a big white fan unit and pipe installed along my house. But I also knew that this was the optimal solution for our needs. And Derek took the time to make it look as neat and clean as possible. I really couldn't have asked for an easier or more pleasant installation at a very fair price. Oh and they guarantee after install that your radon will be 2pCi/L or below. They even give you a kit to test and make sure it has been lowered. There is a lifetime warranty on parts and labor that is transferable if you sell your home. And the fan has a 5 year warranty. So, if you have unsafe radon levels in your home. Don't procrastinate like I did. Just call Radon Systems and get it done in two hours. You'll be glad you did. I am."

"Airtight did a great job from start to finish. Pre-mitigation testing showed radon levels ranging from 3-12 pCi/L, with an average above EPA recommendations. Accurate estimate, explained every step along the way. The actual job was complete in less than a day! Radon levels taken through the pilot holes were through the roof (150 pCi/L for one hole, average of 118 for all pilot holes)! Now the levels average at 1.7 pCi/L over a three day period, with only a single data point hitting 3. I highly recommend Airtight Radon Solutions, LLC for radon mitigation!"

"The consultation appointment was setup quickly, the salesperson was genuinely nice and took time to answer all my questions. The company itself is well organized, everyone was on the same page for the whole process. The installation for our radon mitigation system went smoothly. The crew was pleasant and did a great job."

"First off - DO NOT DO PAY FOR THEIR WATER AND RADON TESTS!  They are over-priced and take way too long for results.  In fact we never received our water report!  Do it yourself, get tests from a reputable and more reasonable lab, such as www.etrlabs.com/ in Leominster.  We paid PC&A almost as much for the tests as the inspection and didn't have results within a week! <br /> PC&A also are pretty big on CYA, so don't expect too much out of the inspection report.  They were very good one-on-one during the inspection.  Although they pulled the classic 'get there 30 minutes early and do the roof first'.  When you arrive on time they will tell you 'oh, we did the roof first and found this and that', but they won't take you up there.  This is annoying, if you are going to buy a house, and pay for an inspection, and the roof isn't crazy steep or high, then you MUST walk the roof.  Preferably aided by a professional who can walk you through the various issue.  In our case the roof had all sorts of problems.  I didn't get a clear idea what they were based on the inspection and report and therefore had to pay a roofer to come out and walk me through the problems.  So I paid twice! <br /> All the negatives aside, we really did find the remainder of the inspection helpful, both the inspectors were knowledgable and responsive to questions, and brought issues to our attention.  We did not end up purchasing the house, based in part on issues uncovered during the inspection, so it wasn't a total waste of money.  When we did find the right house for us, we had a different inspector and did the water/radon tests ourselves.  In total it came in $450 less than with PC&A and the inspection/report was just as good, plus we had our inspection and tests results emailed to use within 48 hours. <br />"

"Showed up on time, performed a nice clean install, explained the whole system, and sealed off my sump pit. Very informative, professional and prompt. They offered a $100 discount for referral that I got from my real estate agent, and I could not have been happier with the work."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Groton, MA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
