"A and R Environmental was recommended to us by friends who have a construction business. They did not disappoint! <br /> Jordan came out to install a radon air system in the house we were in the process of purchasing. He was right on time and was very kind and professional. He determined where the best place for the system would be so it would not be intrusive and would be inconspicuous. He worked very diligently in order to finish without taking up a lot of our time. He did a beautiful job. Once it was done he set up a radon test and came back a few days later in order to check to make sure the system was working properly, which it was. <br /> We had a choice of several companies to use, most of which were less expensive, but we decided to go with A and R because of their good reputation, warranty, and professionalism. We highly recommend them. <br />"

"Showed up on time, performed a nice clean install, explained the whole system, and sealed off my sump pit. Very informative, professional and prompt. They offered a $100 discount for referral that I got from my real estate agent, and I could not have been happier with the work."

"It is really a nice experience to work with John and Kevin. Our house has a funny foundation. There is a block in the middle and half of the house has radon and the other half does not have much. At first time, Kevin came on time, worked very professionally and got the first pipe and big fan installed. But unfortunately, this pipe is in the not much radon side and the radon score did not drop down too much. We were very worried and called the EAGLE ENVIRONMENTAL again. They arranged the second appointment and Kevin did more tests and installed the second pipe on the side of the foundation WITH NO EXTRA COSTS. And then magic happened, our radon number dropped to almost 0 now. :) Thanks you Kevin and EAGLE ENVIRONMENTAL again for the fantastic work!"

"MKC made the whole home inspection process extremely easy.  We needed to have an inspection in a short timeline (we were calling Thursday for the following week) and contacted MKC after reading reviews here and on Yelp.  MKC was able to accommodate this short timeline by scheduling us for the following Monday at 9:00 am. <br /> While our realtor had recommended other inspectors and MKC's price was a slightly higher than others, I was very happy we went with MKC.  We worked with Morgan, who was extremely thorough, detailed, and professional.  He was very attentive to all aspects of the house (from small items such as dishwasher positioning to larger drainage issues) and explained everything to us in detail.  He also took his time to check everything carefully, rather than rush the process, while taking thorough notes and photos.  The end result was a detailed and clear punch list report, which he prepared within 24 hours. <br />   <br /> We had planned to perform a radon test that day as well but unfortunately were unable to do so because of the amount of work still in progress on the house. We plan to have Morgan back both for the radon test and to check the results of the work on punch list items. <br />"

"Kevin was efficient, professional, and very through with his inspection. He had a written report emailed to us that evening. He also did a radon test which was extremely helpful. The level was high and the seller agreed to mitigate the problem. I would recommend Kevin without hesitation for  any inspection service. <br />"

"Chris was amazing. I highly recommend Chris and A Quality Home Inspection Inc. He came to inspect the home we wished to purchase on very short notice. He arrived early to get the lay of the land. He inspected the exterior of the house, and the interior basement to attic taking pictures of everything along the way. He emailed us a very detailed inspection report which covered everything. I also felt his charge was extremely reasonable for such high level service. For a nominal fee, he also went back to pick up the radon canisters and mailed them to the lab for me. Chris looks out for the buyer, and nobody else. He was in our corner."

"Stephen was there when we got to the property. We are first time homebuyers and Stephen took the time to explain everything to us in language that we could understand. We learned a lot during the inspection about how all of the systems in the house work. We began with an inspection of the exterior, and Stephen made sure to give us some tips on how to maintain the siding and how to discourage moisture from being directed toward the home. Our inspection continued inside with the basement and thorough explanation of all of the systems there. We then went to the top floor and attic area where Stephen found some moisture in the attic that the seller's and their agent hadn't even come across. We are glad that he did! Because of his findings, we are having a roofer come out to do an assessment before we purchase the property. Stephen ran all of the appliances, ran the heat in the house (even though it was summertime) just to make sure everything was working properly. The inspection lasted about 2.5 hours and we were very happy with it. Also - the scheduling couldn't have been any easier and we were able to get the inspection scheduled in very short order. Would definitely recommend Jackson Home Inspectors to all of our friends. Cost of inspection included radon testing as well. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Halifax, MA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
