"Had some much needed concrete work done around my house. Have new walkway from driveway to front door (maybe I will use the front door now), new apron at end of driveway (no longer need to 4 wheel up and over into driveway and I have a beautiful newly poured patio (no more backwash to the house or picture puzzle). I highly recommend Express Concrete. Great pricing, fantastic work ethic/customer service and beautiful end product. EXPRESS CONCRETE - proprietor Don Bridy @ (717) 773-0090"

"I found them on Angie's List. They came out promptly. It took the probably three weeks from start to finish and another week to do the touch-up work that I requested. When I called originally, the owner called me back on the weekend. He sent his foreman out to meet me the following week. He came out and we looked over the plans. They were excellent. They were timely and friendly. They were courteous and professional. They cleaned up on a daily basis after they did their work. Their concern was the total satisfaction of the customer. The crew matched the expectations of the foreman. The foreman matched my expectations. I was thrilled. They are fantastic. They were great."

"Project: Remove and replace existing concrete sidewalks: They arrived earlier than start date, removed all existing concrete, and put in all forming materials. this took 2 days. work. When concrete arrived they worked quickly and efficiently to finish troweling (200 ft), Since I live on a corner, I had Ken coat the concrete with a finish that slows down damage from salt residue when the snow plow throws snow onto my yard and walks. I am very well pleased with the quality of workmanship. If I had more concrete, I would hire him again. Exellent job!"

"They did very well. They are very good with small projects. They aren't real expensive with reasonable prices. For the time to schedule was only a week. I have recommended them to others. They are close and I've had nothing but good experiences with them."

"Travis is professional and very deliberate in what he does. He thinks and plans before working, which I like. One of the steps he repaired became loose and he came out and fixed it. I have recommended him and others have also been happy."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Halifax, PA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
