"The salesman did a quick inspection and gave me a price that was 20% lower than the competition! He told me it would be six weeks or so till they could come. That was pretty much when they came. The workers made sure they understood what I wanted and worked diligently despite sub-zero temperatures! They did a superb job, were very considerate and unobtrusive, asked questions and explained things to me, and cleaned up thoroughly after the job. I was very nervous about this job, since it is such a big expense and would be such a hassle if it wasn't done properly. But I'm happy to say my experience with Carefree Windows and Siding was about as good as it could be."

"Glenn and his crew were always pleasant and very professional. The quality of work was exceptional. They installed new windows, new siding, insulation, drywall, flooring, remodeled 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, my kitchen, and 2 living spaces. Outside, they built a deck with built in seating, laid stone for a walkway, and reshingled the exterior of the house. Glenn laid beautiful wide plank pine floors, installed large picture windows, and worked with the local Amish community who custom designed and hand made the cabinets for my kitchen. The work was completed last year, but recently I had an issue with a leak in ceiling around my chimney. The leak was caused by an issue from before Halldale builders started the renovation, but Glenn was still able to come right out and fix the roof as well as the drywall in the ceiling. Great work and great customer service. <br />"

"The quality of work was great and fast. They keep the cost down. He was the only person who answered his phone when I was trying to contact anyone to fix the floor and they came the next week. He's quick, polite, and easy to talk to."

"Mr. Haas identified problems in our roof installation and issued a report. He suggested re-install and steps that we should take to get it done. It was a long process that involved county and DPOR. Mr. Haas was very helpful every step during the entire process. He is highly experienced and very responsive to our calls, text, and email. We eventually got the roof reinstalled in a very good quality. Mr. Haas was onsite multiple times to ensure the right materials and methods were used. It would not be possible without the help from Mr. Haas."

"Although the project turned out to be more complicated and took longer than expected, this had little to do with <br /> the builder or his sub-contractors. Primarily the delays were due to weather, financing issues, and poor <br /> communications on the part of the town's code enforcement officer. <br /> Let me address this last issue first. Everything seemed to be alright until the pad was poured. The code <br /> enforcement officer was upset that she was not notified prior to the pouring of the cement so she could inspect <br /> the forms and re-bar. This and quot;misunderstandingand quot; occurred because the CEO never communicated to either myself or the <br /> contractor at what points during the project she wanted to perform inspections. However, from this point forward <br /> the CEO seemed to question every aspect of the project. Demonstrating considerable restraint and diplomacy, most <br /> of the time the contractor bowed to her demands (he was much , but drew the line at her trying to force him to <br /> install a water shutoff valve in a location that would likely have caused our well pump to burn out. In this <br /> case Greg Bragg stood his ground, backing it up with State of Maine statutes. <br /> With respect to the weather, June 2013 was one of the wettest on record for Maine. As far as financing, the <br /> magnitude and cost of the project exceeded what we had budgeted and we found out just how difficult it is to <br /> secure financing for rental property, especially if you are setting up a used mobile home. Consequently, we had <br /> to break the project into two phases. <br /> The demolition of the old house and initial site preparation went very smoothly as can be seen in this 8 minute <br /> YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWaJEgV2iJE). <br /> Getting the mobile home onto the pad was a bit more interesting since the ground was still very muddy from all <br /> the rain we received in June and July. Fortunately, Greg Bragg of Bragg Builders had the foresight to keep a <br /> bulldozer onsite. As can be seen in this 8 minute YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioZ1IFl-3CQ), <br /> the bulldozer was absolutely essential. <br /> The only other issue related to Bragg Builders portion of the project was a ruptured water line. Prior to <br /> constructing the gravel pad a brand new water line was installed and was even packed in sand to ensure rocks <br /> would not rupture the line. Unfortunately, a rupture occurred anyway. Fortunately, the contractor promptly <br /> installed a new water line, at no charge to us. <br />"

"Our initial experiences with this company were A+ all the way and so it was with this job ... it was professional from the beginning estimate to the final payment. We have had extremely bad experiences with other residential service companies in the past so we find Maine Construction Group (MCG) to be a continuing breath of fresh air. <br /> There are two divisions to this company; however, they both operate under the same management and ethical standards. We have been lucky to have had experience with both. Their Handyman division is simply an extension of their service tailored to the homeowners needs. We have had a couple of jobs that did not require major construction and this is where the Handyman division was so beneficial.  <br /> We will be looking to have additional work performed this coming spring and will be calling MCG's Handyman Division with the hope that they can fit us into their schedule. Their rates are reasonable for the service they provide and they perform the best work possible in order to meet their standards and to satisfy their customer's expectations.  <br /> In summary, this company is professional, ethical, and reasonable. They work very hard at satisfying their customers at a fair price, they do what they say they will do in the time-frame stated and at the agreed on price. We highly recommend Maine Construction Group /Maine Residential Construction."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Hampden, ME

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
