"Glad to be done with cleaning gutters out. Have several trees and was forced to use the 'basket covers' on downspouts to keep leaves and whirlybirds out of the downspouts that drain underground."

"Called this past year for an estimate to clean my gutters. The owner came out and gave an estimate for quarterly care @ $252.00 for each cleaning. Seemed high but we wanted to make sure that our gutters would be debris free - especially on the west side of our home where there are large trees. Didn't really notice any issues until early April; while cleaning up my flower beds I noticed that one downspout had an large amount of debris clogging it. Literally coming coming out between the gutter and the ground. This was surprising given that after each previous cleaning the report given was that all was clean and the water was free-flowing. Obviously not free-flowing in this downspout. I called the owner and left a message and followed up with an email. He stated that his guy must have missed it and that the debris was likely only about an arm's length within the gutter. And that they could check it when they come out for the quarterly cleaning. For me, that is unacceptable. Given the amount of money paid to ensure that the job is done correctly, an arm's length clog doesn't cut it for me. <br />"

"Charles and another man arrived two hours late--they never called me, rather I called them twice that morning to find out where they were. The first time, they said they were on their way and would be at my house in 15 minutes. They didn't arrive for another 1.5 hrs. When they arrived, they said they were on their way when they went back to their business and get rain coats. This was the morning before Hurricane Irene was to hit Connecticut and it was raining on and off. At the time, I was relieved that I was having the work done before the storm was to hit, since I knew the gutters desperately needed to be cleaned out. As it turned out, I'm not sure it mattered much, because of the quality of their work. <br /> <br /> They did clean out my gutters, but not my downspouts. Basically, they dragged my hose up on the roof (a 2 story house) and flushed the gutters...into the downspouts, where else? I believe they did have to manually do some of the clean out and I have Waterfall vinyl gutter guards on my gutters that they had to deal with and which Charles complained about. I haven't had the gutters cleaned in several years and I knew that birds had dislodged the covers and nested in several place. After the guys left, I found one gutter bracket on the ground in the backyard (I can't see where it came from), and in another spot, I can see a cover connector clip (connecting two length of gutter cover) wasn't reattached to the gutter. <br /> <br /> After Irene hit, I was inspecting around my yard and found that a large shrub next to the house was starting to pull out of the ground. That's when I found that the downspout at that corner of the house was packed with about a foot of debris. This wasn't from the storm, this was from them cleaning the gutters but not bothering with the downspouts. I couldn't believe it. Where did they think all that debris was going? They didn't even check the downspouts. It took me about 15 minutes with several make-shift tools (finally a bent wire-hanger worked best) to get it all out. I think the packed downspout contributed to the damage to the shrub (it'll live) because the ground there next to the downspout spot got so saturated. <br /> <br /> I can't recommend them. When someone works on your house, you want to them to treat it like it's their own, like they care. I have to say I was very disappointed at how it went, since they had such good grades in Angie's List. <br /> <br />"

FAQs for gutters & downspouts cleaning service projects in Hampton, CT

You’ll want to clean gutters once or twice a year—in early spring and again in fall—to keep water flowing and avoid pricey leaks. Homes tucked beneath tall trees or hit with heavy debris may need two to four visits instead. Staying on schedule protects your roof, siding, and foundation from costly water damage.

Even with gutter guards, plan on an occasional cleaning—just not as often as homes without guards. Installing gutter guards blocks leaves, but grit and shingle granules still slip through and pile up over time. A quick sweep keeps water moving and stops overflow that can damage your roof or foundation.

Watch for overflowing water, slow or silent downspouts, sagging sections, or debris peeking over the gutter edge. You might also spot water stains, weeds, or an increasing number of ants in certain areas. Any of these red flags means it’s time to call a gutter cleaning pro for service before minor clogs turn into major leaks.

Skip cleanings for too long and gutters overflow, sending water under shingles, down siding, and toward the foundation. The result can be mold, rotted fascia, basement leaks, and repair bills that dwarf the price of a quick cleaning. It can also mean that future cleanings will be more expensive as it will take pros longer to deep clean gutters that are full of heavy debris. Staying on schedule saves money and headaches.

Plan on gutter cleaning service to take an average of one hour for an average single-story home and two to three hours for taller houses. Add extra time if gutter guards need to come off or clogs are packed in. Pros work methodically, clearing every linear foot so water can flow freely again.
