"Team along with company owner arrived early and covered shrubs and grass around house with tarps, parked dump trailer in driveway for trash. Multiple guys on roof stripping off shingles and two guys on ground cleaning up as they worked. Roof underpayment and drip edge was on before lunch. With only about three and a half hours of daylight left, 9 guys all went to work on laying 30 squares of shingles, ridge vent and caps finishing the job in one day. Yard was cleaned up and nails were removed with a magnet, yard was left just as they found it. Evan’s Roofing team was experienced and very professional, using quality Owings Corning roofing products to complete the job. This is the second roof they have done for my family this year and they will be doing two more family houses in the spring. Definitely would recommend Evans Quality Roofing to anyone needing.a new roof or roof repair."

"After suffering wind damage on our roof and aluminum siding, we contacted ArchExteriors for an assessment. They confirmed our damage and pulled together appropriate information for us to submit to our insurance company. When our insurance adjuster came out, a representative from ArchExteriors came out and walked through the damage with them. We were thrilled with the result as funding for a new roof and siding was provided thru our insurance company. While finding appropriate breaks in the weather was a challenge, once identified, ArchExteriors came thru and in a single day, by mid-afternoon, we had a new roof. Once again, working around weather, work began on our siding 8 days later. Four days after that we had new siding and new gutters & downspouts. Having suffered some interior water damage from our leaky roof, ArchExteriors also came thru with appropriate repair & remediation for these damaged areas. And now we are extremely pleased with the result. It was a big job all around. We found the ArchExteriors teams to be both professional and highly skilled as their work was of the highest quality. They were also highly conscientious and cleaned up thoroughly after they were done. The office staff was also very professional and responsive. In all, we couldn’t be more pleased. We would definitely recommend ArchExteriors to others."

"Recent high winds had loosened the vinyl wrap on the fascia board on the front of our house. The poorly-installed wrap was evidently the only thing holding the soffit vents in place, and 3 of them dropped to the ground below. I contacted Jessie at Antietam Roofing and got an estimate on the repair cost. Because of inclement weather, he said it would probably be 3 days before they could do the work. When I called him near the estimated day, he said they would be there as promised and that the crew would call when they were on their way. I got a call the morning of the repair to let me know they were on their way. Tony (head guy) and Michael (his assistant) arrived right on time. Tony described what caused the problem and what he suggested doing to keep it from happening again (i.e., nail the wrap to the sill and do it with more than 2 nails!). We agreed on the plan, and they immediately started to work. They were finished in about an hour. The repair looks great."

"Once again Wolfe, Mottola & Sons came through. I had a roof with some major wind damage resulting in leaks in a tenant's bathroom. It was the first time I had made a claim for a roof, and WM&S made it very easy. Linda was terrific setting it up, (even while she was on vacation!) and Todd answered all my questions along the way, again, very patiently and thoroughly. The CertainTeed Lifetime Landmark Pro Architectural Shingles look solid and come with a 10-year transferability warranty if you sell the property. I look at roofs now when walking around and the flashing, corners, ridge vents, bay windows, roof line, ... all of it looks solid with clean lines. I don't have the worry anymore about any leaks or issues for my own house or tenants. It's awesome. Thanks Linda, Todd, and everyone at WM&S... again."

"I'm a relatively new homeowner, so after a storm damaged my roof, I had no idea how to get my roof repaired or how to navigate the home insurance claim nightmare. I was so grateful when my friend's husband (who is a contractor specializing in home insurance jobs) recommended I call a company local to me called American Custom Contractors. My friend's husband told me he had worked with the company previously and knew that the company had good people, does good work, and is trustworthy. I'm happy to say that he was 100% right. Initially, my home insurance company only wanted to pay to replace a few shingles on my roof, but American Custom Contractors advocated on my behalf, and we were able to get the home insurance to replace my whole roof! There was months of back and forth with the home insurance company, but American Custom Contractors really allayed my anxiety during this whole process. In fact, everyone I met and spoke to at the company knew exactly what they were doing and were polite and professional. I felt like I was in good hands during the entire process. I'm happy to say my roof is now brand new and beautiful. I highly recommend American Custom Contractors for their superb customer service and high quality work."

"This company is top notch! The owner of the company was quoting a job for our neighbor (we had just moved into our house), and we asked if he would mind giving us a quote on replacing our gutters. Within an hour he presented us a quote right in our ballpark and three days later the work was complete. The installation team was as courteous and professional as the owner. They did a great job setting up, installing and cleaning up. Our house looks great and we couldn't be happier with the work performed. Grade A company to deal with. We highly recommend them!"

"The estimate was free. The estimate was for a roof replacement over my house and my garage. They were quick. They were responsive, but they were much less communication about the estimate. They were basically, "Yeah, we'll be there Friday". Friday kind of came and went and I called back to even see if they had even come to check it because I didn't have that day for the estimate. It was a little more vague. Had they even really been here? Or not? Whereas the other folks, they were here. I was actually here when they were here. I don't want to make it like it was vague because I wasn't here. They just never said, "hey, we're coming out today" or "hey, we were there yesterday". They were like "we'll be out this week" and then the next week were like, "oh yeah, our guy came out". For improvement, I would recommend they serve an immediate followup to them having come out to do the estimate. I would recommend that within 24 hours of them being at your house, they call and say, "hey, Mr. Stottlemyer, we were at your house yesterday and just wanted to let you know we're working on your estimate" so you know that they have actually been there. Everybody was really close on the price. There wasn't really a whole lot of interaction. I just didn't like the whole idea of not letting someone know exactly when someone was there. I wouldn't not use them because of that. "

"He did check the other parts of the roof to check shingles for damage. He walked around the sections he did not repair to make sure everything was good and I was pretty happy about that."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Hancock, MD

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
