"Returned calls quickly, explained everything in detail, got the job done in a reasonable timeframe. Fixed subpar work from the previous roofer that had failed and even pointed out some other problems that needed to be addressed and discussed if i wanted to fix or wait. Go with a pro, you won't regret it."

"Owner & crew came when scheduled. I was kept informed through out the project as issues concerning the very poor condition to old roof arose, as expected. Work was completed, clean up excellent. Great company to work with!"

"This was my second experience with Olson-Legatt (they did my house back in 2009)-in both cases the work was clean, neat and done in two days or less (house was a day and a half-garage was less than one day). In both cases, the work was clean, neat and professional.  One important note-my wife has a lot of garden surrounding both structures and is really fussy about work impacting her gardens-there were NO issues). The price with both jobs was right on budget (on my 100 yr old house). <br /> Based on a prior experience, I would say that Olson-Legatt provides an exception level of service. Highly recommended. <br />"

"The whole project went beautifully.  I had previously contacted several roofing companies for quotes, but i didn't hear back on any of them with a final quote or date that they could do the service.  When I contacted David (owner), he followed up with a visit to assess what was needed, and when it changed (there was more damage to repair than initially identified from outside), he communicated it coompletely.  He was up front about the price.  It didn't change, and he probably did more than quoted.  <br /> <br /> The project seemed huge to me, but to David and his team it was easily accomplished.  David's whole team was professoinal - all the required tools and product were there at the start of the project, the team came when they said they would and stayed to work the entire day and returned immediately the next day to finish. David was on-site the whole time, available for questions, and overseeing the project.  Also, they cleaned everything up afterwards. <br /> <br /> I give David a five star rating on pricing, timeliness, quality of work and professionalism - Thank you! <br /> <br /> <br />"

"<p> </p> <p>I gave Western Products a grade of C, mostly due to my overall frustration with this process and my perception of communications.. I felt is was not fair to give the anger-based D grade that I hovered over.. So, on to my review?<br /> I looked for several businesses in town that could do the work for me. While cost was a factor, so was speed. My roof had begun to leak and I needed it repaired. Long story...less long....while the quote for Western Products was about $4000 higher than the closest other bids, I decided to go with them based upon the fact I was assured they could start the work in about 2 week rather than a 4-6 weeks from the others. Also, I felt going with a more established company that offered same as cash financing was a plus.<br /> ROOFING<br /> Work did start on the roof on time. In fact, due to the fact another project they were working on was cancelled, they were able to send 2 crews to my home and complete the removal and install of the new roof on the same day. They also removed the chimney to below my roofline and installed a new vent that was routed through the chimney. Regarding the speed in which this was done, I have no issues and would give that a grade of A, however, I do think it was typical that it was done that quickly and was more attributed to the other project being put on hold. If that was all I had done, I would have given A's and B's. The B's would be really for the pricing and quality. <br /> Quality wise, the new vent that was installed was noticeably tilted and the drip edge that was put around the roof was kinda beat up. In fact, i had to request that a few be corrected and got a bit of an eye roll from the crew lead when I asked about this. I am still waiting on the new chimney vent to be corrected.<br /> Also, when the old gutters were removed and the new roof was put on, a gap in the soffit was made wider. I had mentioned that birds were getting into this area of the roof section and expected this to be corrected. It was not and birds started making their nest once again. When I called and pointed this out, a person was sent over to fix it by screwing a strip of metal over part of the opening. However, the entire hole was not covered. I am still awaiting that to be repaired.<br /> The clean up around the house was pretty good. I did go around after the crew left and found 6 nails in the driveway and about the same around on the sidewalk and patio. I kinda expected that, but would have been much more pleased to find none.<br /> GUTTERS<br /> The gutters took a couple of weeks to get installed. I was told this would happen since I was getting seamless gutters that kept leaves out. Since it is easier to set up the forming machine and do several jobs at the same time, I understood I would need to wait. When the gutters were installed, they looked great. My initial frustration I had with that was due to the heavy rains we had while I was waiting (it happens) and that I again found several nails in the driveway as well as some metal waste from the cutting tool. </p> <p> </p> <p>The more bothersome issue was with regards to the invoice. After I got the first invoice, I mentioned it to the supervisor and he said not to worry about, he will let them know it was part of the package.  After getting two more, I called the company and told them it was part of the package deal.  I got the forth invoice with red ink on it telling me to send in the money.  This is after I had already paid for the entire project.  Obviously their communications are an issue when dealing with the different divisions. <br /> GABLE VENTS<br /> To date, I am still waiting on this to be completed. Once again...Long Story...Less Long, I have been waiting for over 2 1/2 months to get these installed. This has been the most frustrating part of the process...especially since I have already paid in full for the work to be done. I did this in good faith since I was told that would be done right after the roofing was done. I have been told several times they thought this was done. I have made a lot of calls and texts. About half have gone unreturned until I get a bit forceful on the subject. While I can appreciate the short season we have and that sometimes projects get delayed, what I cannot understand is the failures in simply letting me know what is going on. In fact, I had stayed home 1 day to meet with staff to get this done, only to have no one show up. <br /> OVERALL<br /> This project started over 3 months ago and is still not completed. I was called today and told this will be done next week. I am hoping this is true. <br /> In general, I think the work is good, but a bit overpriced.   In my opinion, communication is a major issue, not only with the customer, but within the company.  While things happen with construction projects, the importance of keeping the customer informed cannot be undervalued.  Recently, I uncharacteristically left a profanity laden tirade on the supervisor?s phone for his lack of communications.  While I did later apologized for the profanity, I did note my level of frustration and my desire go get this job completed were real and needed to be addressed.  I am hoping the promise to get this finished next week comes true.</p> <p> My final advice, I foolishly signed off on the Western Products getting fully payment from the finance company prior to the work being done.  While admittedly, the remaining issues are minor issues in relation to the overall project, it still needed to be done.  Waiting for over 2 months for this is not right, especially since the internal communications were not good at the company.  I wonder if I did not stay on this, if it would ever be done.   I felt my bargaining chips were gone.  Being a ?Good Guy? came back to bite me.  Don?t make the same mistake.</p> <br />"

"Mr. Haas identified problems in our roof installation and issued a report. He suggested re-install and steps that we should take to get it done. It was a long process that involved county and DPOR. Mr. Haas was very helpful every step during the entire process. He is highly experienced and very responsive to our calls, text, and email. We eventually got the roof reinstalled in a very good quality. Mr. Haas was onsite multiple times to ensure the right materials and methods were used. It would not be possible without the help from Mr. Haas."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Hendrum, MN

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
