"I started with looking for someone to install flooring we had picked out somewhere else, but had not purchase yet. Dan came over and was willing to do the job, but when we showed him the sample of what we thought we wanted he suggested we take a look at the samples he had. We are so glad we went with his suggestion, our floors are beautiful! The workmanship of his crew is top notch and fast. I highly recommend Floor Coverings International."

"Javier and his team at Rivera's Fine Flooring did an excellent job installing new hardwood floors in my home.  I was really impressed by how quickly they were able to get everything done and at how great the place looked when they were finished.  They even cleaned everything up and hauled away the waste.  I own a duplex and am in the process of updating both units.  When it comes time to update the second unit, I will definitely be calling these guys to install the floors.  They were easy to work with, were on time and well priced.

Carpet - Repair, Refasten, or Stretch

"After looking at several samples in their showroom, I picked out Mohawk Stylish Story II for the big rooms, and Tuftex MarraKech carpet for the laundry. The lady encouraged me to take home two sample boards, so I could think about the various colors. A few days later, I requested a measurement and quote, which was done by Craig Johansen. A week later, I went back to the store, to make a down payment. I also had requested a change of color (we changed our minds about one of the colors). I told Craig I would be fixing squeaks in the floor before the installation, so there was no rush. (I recently found out that when the carpet is removed from the floor, one can install screws in the floor board to remove a squeak. This turned out very effective, but quite a bit of work for me.) When I finished fixing the squeaks, it took quite a long time for Floors Plus to call me back with an appointment to install the carpet. It was good they gave me time to fix the squeaks, but I felt it was too much time! We had furniture crammed into the other rooms, dryer moved into the kitchen, for a few weeks. The end result is very good (see pictures). The installers worked all day and I could tell they were very careful. There was leftover carpet pad in the end, because they neglected to take into account in their order that the laundry and small bedroom didn't use padding. I requested the carpet in the laundry room not be glued down in the area around the washing machine, so that it could be pulled back in case the washer ever leaks. They were happy to do this, and still used an "X" of glue near doorways and in the bedroom, to prevent ripples later."

FAQs for carpet repair, refasten, or stretch projects in Hollister, CA

Removing a rug costs around $0.40 to $0.50 per square foot. This includes the fee for a contractor to roll up the rug and haul it away in a vehicle for disposal or recycling. If they need to move furniture, they might charge an additional $0.25 to $0.30 per square foot of furniture.

If your carpet has minor damage—like a single area that requires stretching, patching, or cleaning—it might be less expensive to pay for carpet repair than remove and replace it. Repairing carpet costs around $210 per project.

The cost of carpet cleaning is about $190 for a three-bedroom home, so it’s a good idea to have your carpet cleaned at least once a year. But most carpeting only lasts 10 years. If your carpet is nearing the end of its life span, it might be more cost-effective to remove and replace your carpet than to clean and repair it. The average cost to install a new carpet is about $1,800.

Search our directory of carpet removal companies and services to find an affordable, screened contractor near you. All HomeAdvisor listings are vetted, reviewed, and rated by homeowners, so you can be sure to find a local pro qualified for your project. Get at least three quotes to compare prices and the timeline for your project.

Commercial carpet removal usually costs on the lower end of the carpet removal price range, around $1.10 per square foot or even less. Carpet installation contractors often offer discounted rates for larger projects, like commercial carpet removal and installation. Similarly, you might be able to negotiate a lower residential carpet removal cost if the carpet is pulled up throughout your entire home.

Most cities accept old carpets as bulk trash, but you may need to schedule a special pickup and prepare the carpet properly. Remove any nails or glue residue, cut the carpet into manageable pieces, and roll and secure them. Alternatively, you can take your old carpet to a local recycling center for a small fee, where it can be processed and repurposed.

Yes, you can remove carpet yourself if you're ready for a labor-intensive task. DIY carpet removal requires heavy lifting and tools like utility knives, pliers, and pry bars. The process is generally straightforward but time-consuming for stapled-down carpet. If your carpet is glued down or you're worried about damaging the subfloor, hiring a professional is best to ensure the job is done safely and efficiently.
