"Installation was quick, and sooner than we had expected. We had one small issue with the flashing but it was corrected quickly and satisfactorily. The roof looks great. We are pleased with the work."

"Recently I noticed a section of gutter had disconnected and . collapsed.. I called to exercise my warranty, I heard nothing for several weeks and emailed with the same message. A couple more weeks passed with no reply until last week a crew came to my door and in very short order made the repair at no cost to me. Communications could have been better but the end rresult is what matters. Positive experience overall."

"A-1 did an excellent job on the roof itself. Their workers left a lot of trash in the yard (about half a garbage bag worth) which we had to clean up. They were going to sub the gutter replacement to A&A Continuous Gutters, but A&A did two no-shows to work with no phone calls, so we had to make other arrangements for the gutters. A-1 again did excellent on the roof itself, and we are very pleased with that portion of the work. They were very punctual and finished their portion of the job ahead of schedule. Their subcontractor was not dependable"

"I contacted Tim Messinger after our new roof started leaking. Todd Townsend installed the new roof ($15,000) on our home. We immediately had leaks and excuses from Todd. After exhausting all efforts to have Todd fix his mistakes I started looking for another roofer. Tim Messinger was the ONLY roofer who would come out after learning whose mistakes he would be repairing. The other roofers I called would immediately tell me they do not take any roofing jobs/repairs that Townsend has been involved with. Tim was polite, professional and best of all I no longer have any leaks! I would recommend Tim to anyone. His prices are fair and competitive. <br />"

"Our "only" negative comment about Ground Zero Shelters is that they do not come to a persons residence to give the sales pitch and demonstration. You must go to their showroom or see their product at a home show. This being said, we were extremely happy with the sales experience, reminders and installation of our shelter. They called about 10 days prior to the installation for a reminder, their installers called the day before and the morning of the installation to remind us that they would be at our home at the designated time. They showed up as promised and were completed with the installation in less than 1 1/2 hours time! Thank you Ground Zero!"

"Kelvin called right away to see how his company could help me resolve my issue with the garage door. He sent Gilmer out the same day look at the damage done and provide an estimate. Gilmer installed our new garage door the next week. We were completely satisfied with their customer service from beginning to end and the installation."

"They did what I wanted them to do.  They added to the length of the ice dam over my heat pump as I requested during construction. <br /> They cleaned up and left nothing behind.  I never heard a foul word from any of the workers. .The work was delayed a few days by weather.  This was unavoidable.  I understand a wet metal roof is very unsafe to be on. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Huntington, WV

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
