"I had some friends over late Friday evening and we were going to hit the hot tub.  Much to my dismay, removing the cover revealed a half-inch layer of ice instead of steamy, swirly goodness.  I did some basic checking: I looked in the panel and saw the breaker was tripped, tried to reset and it tripped again immediately.  So I went upstairs and removed the service disconnect from the hot tub, tried to flip the breaker again, and it still tripped immediately.  So I knew it was either a short in the wiring due to the extreme cold or a bad breaker. <br /> I searched for an electrician and found ES&S, called Rob for emergency service and eventually got someone sent out.  It was late on Friday when this started, and it was later still by the time the electrician showed up.  The man on site was great, he was helpful, thorough, and friendly.  We got the breaker out of the panel and tested it, getting it to set successfully out of the panel.  When it stayed set after being wired back in, we knew it was the breaker going bad and moved to replace it.  He put in a regular 50 amp and we went up to make sure the tub started. <br /> Of course, we had some frozen hoses by then, and the guy was good enough to lend me an extension cord and hang around for a  while as we put hairdryers and heaters under the hot tub to thaw things out and get it running again.  While we waited, he addressed some other minor issues around the house, and though he did leave before we got it working, my wife and I went to bed with a working hot tub at about 3 AM. <br /> I talked to Rob a few days later and scheduled another trip to replace the standard breaker they had left with a GFI model. They had no GFI's when they came out originally so this was an additional visit.  I also asked to go over the charges. He discussed callout, time-and-a-half for late night, the cost of the breaker itself, and the trip to install the GFI, and gave me an overall total of $440. <br />  The electrician showed up on time to replace the breaker again, and five minutes later was on his way.  This was about a week after the original event, but I now had a working, properly safe, hot tub again.  Another week or so goes by and I finally get the bill for $520 - almost 20% over what I had been quoted.   <br /> <br /> UPDATE: After my original review, Rob contacted me and after some discussion, we were able to reach a resolution. I have amended my review to reflect the additional services provided and the resolution on the billing.  We agreed to meet in the middle and based on some other estimates I received, the price is more fair than I initially believed.  I have to give Rob credit for reaching out after my original review posted, and I am glad we were able to reach a mutually acceptable resolution. We both had some challenges with this repair but based on how things ended up, I will use ES&S again as an electrical service provider."

"The job went very well. The timing required that the wallpaper removal be done first then the repair of the bookcase. Next Pablo installed sheetrock where it was required in the skylight. The walls were then painted, followed by the woodwork and ceiling. The four coats of paint on the woodwork made it look very good. As the work proceeded careful tapeing and laying of plastic made the painting look great and kept the rest of the house clean. Pablo's crew kept the work area neat and cleaned up each night. They layed plastic down where they walked in the house. I will definitely use Proservices again."

"The first unit was delivered in a timely manner. However, the carrier did not adhere to the shippers warnings about product fragility and the unit was received in a damaged state. The unit was sent back to Classic Copperworks for repair.  The repair was treated as a priority by Mr. Threadgill, who had the unit shipped back to me in three weeks. It arrived in good condition that time. <br /> Mr Threadgill was very helpful in providing support in order to finish our project. He even had a caulking product sent to us in order to help with flashing the unit. That meant alot. <br /> I am not a professional contractor, but was able to install the unit myself with his support. However, my profession does provide me the opportunity to serve the public and as such, I feel that I am more than qualified in commenting on good service. While Classic Copperworks may not be the cheapest provider of goods and services, they stand behind their product and provide great support. It requiress a "leap of faith" to order an expensive unit from an out-of-state provider with no prior mutual history, but I can attest to my complete satisfaction. <br /> WRS <br /> <br />"

FAQs for generator repair projects in Janesville, MN

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
