"BAD EXPERIENCE. We bought all new windows for our house in spring, 2017 through AVI – Alpharetta, GA. We considered this and it was represented by the AVI sales rep as an “investment” for many years of worry-free repair and enhancement of our windows,. We paid $47,000 of which we financed $25,000 through a bank AVI had an arrangement with. Because of a misunderstanding, we had to pay $22,000 in interest to settle that loan (loan was represented to be interest free), so in the end our total cost was $69,000. The work that was done had various problems with measurements and installations and several items needed to be redone. It took over 6 months for completion with lots of changes and frustrations along the way. Within 4 years one of the windows became cloudy and we called for warranty replacement. We were told that window had not been included in the proposal although we had asked all windows be included and were advised by our sales rep contact they had been - turns out he had missed including that one window; he had left the company just before we submitted that claim; we had to find and pay someone else to replace that window. Now, 7 years after installation, another window, in a door, has become cloudy. We filed another claim and were told that window was out of warranty and would not be replaced. Again, we thought we had plenty of years of warranty - “last window work you will need for this house” is what we were told. Very frustrating and disappointing experience with AVI. Before proceeding with them, a prospective customer needs to be sure to understand all warranties (turns out different products used for us had different length of warranties, as short as only 3 years) and don't use their financing source without fully understanding how it works."

FAQs for second story addition building service projects in Jonesboro, GA

For many homeowners, building up is worth the expense because it provides the extra bedrooms or living areas that can’t be accommodated within the existing footprint. A larger, updated home often commands a higher resale price, recouping a sizable share of the project cost while allowing you to stay in the neighborhood you love. Run the numbers with a real estate agent and contractor to ensure the expected return and day-to-day benefits align with your goals.

Whether it makes more sense to build up or out depends on your lot, budget, and local code. Building up preserves yard space and involves less foundation work, but you may need to vacate the home during construction. Building out avoids staircases and can proceed while you stay put; however, it encroaches on the yard and may face setback limits. Compare both options with your contractor before making a decision.

A structural engineer will first inspect the existing foundation for cracks, footings, and load capacity. Depending on the findings, the crew may pour new concrete footings, install steel or concrete piers, add reinforced beams, or tie additional rebar into the slab. These upgrades redistribute the weight of the new floor and bring the structure up to code. Your contractor will outline the specific reinforcement plan and timeline once the engineering report is complete.
