"David Odell was on schedule to provide me an estimate for an addition to my parking area, driveway widening, and walkway concrete. The work was carried out to the highest professional standard and communication throughout the project was excellent. We are really happy with the finished product. On top of all that, I requested two quotes for different scales of the project and was able to get all of the work done within my budget after approving both quotes. Odell Concrete demonstrated excellent work ethic and delivered high level craftsmanship to complete my project. "Barely a month ago we first contacted System Pavers to consider having them replace our driveway. Today, I signed off on completion of the project, which was extremely smooth from start to finish. When James Jordan, our design consultant first met with us via video conference, he already had Google images of our property, and was therefore well prepared to discuss what we wanted to do. Based on that meeting, he prepared a first draft plan for what we wanted, which he brought to our home only about 3 days later, along with material samples. At the end of that marathon meeting, we had a game plan for a 2- or 3-phase project: first replacing our driveway and then -- if we were satisfied with phase 1, moving on to the back patio and yard. Two weeks later, construction started, with Jimmy Jackson as our Project Manager and Temo as his crew chief, and now -- less than a week later, everything is completed and beautiful. During the course of construction, we encountered a couple of minor glitches -- nothing major -- and each time, Jimmy's attitude (and that of everyone working with him) was, "no problem -- we can fix that." Meanwhile, our neighbors have been working (with a different company!) on a similar project for the past 4+ months. Needless to say, they are in awe of how quickly our transformation was completed!"

"We chose Built Strong Construction to do our Earthquake Bolting job and are very impressed. We were approved by the city to had 3 different companies offer estimates and service. Built Strong was by far in another league, they provided before and after photos, obtained the permit and submitted to the city on our behalf. They did all the leg work, made the process seamless and updated us through each step. We are so thankful for their customer service, great work and time. They provided a 30 year warranty and with their help weve received $3,000 reimbursement from the city. Thank you so much Built Strong Construction."

"The changes were phenomenal!  Our bathroom was over 30 years old.  Now <br /> as senor citizens we needed to completely modify our bathing area.  Out <br /> came the "over-sized" man made 750 gallon bathtub to a totally flat area <br /> where we just walk in and out of the shower without any curtains or <br /> shower doors, and a new "walk in" bathtub off in a corner, and the most <br /> amazing arrangement of different coordinating tiles on the walls and <br /> floor!  I might add here that we are talking about 140 square feet area! <br /> Rayshon has a very keen eye for design and layout.  <br /> He and his crew were on time every day, cleaned up after themselves every evening, and very professional in every area. <br /> I would strongly encourage people to use his services, and would also do so again myself!!!  I only wish I could leave pictures! <br />"

"Jaime was great! He suggested that we add cement to both sides of our walkway to accommodate a shed, which was a great idea ! Even adding more cement, his quote was less than other quotes I had received. They had to dig a trench for the sprinkler pipe to go under the cement, replace and repair a fence post, and remove a ton of rocks. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He was on time and very clean. I would highly recommend him to anyone. <br />"

"After interviewing several contractors, I hired Bruce. I wanted to hire a contractor that was skillful in laying cement patios and that <br /> patio would last for years to come. Bruce exceeded my expectations. He was always on time, easy to talk to, offered ideas that enhanced the finale look of the patio from ordinary to spectacular. The patio looks amazing way beyond what I could of hope for. <br /> I can only describe his work as as extraordinary, remarkable, and very professionally done. Bruce is the consummate professional. Thank you for a job well done. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"He is a very nice young man! He is accommodating and had some good ideas and suggestions. He was not expensive, his estimates were affordable but I had a few other problems arise and I couldn't' end up going with him. He did everything he could to give me what he thought I wanted, which I did, and I was disappointed that I wasn't able to have him perform the service. He brought me over a couple of different large samples. I told him about a restaurant who's floor I liked and he actually went to the restaurant and he was willing to make a sample of that floor for me as well. I do recommend that people talk to him before they decide on a concrete contractor! I have showed other people his samples and they liked them!"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Joshua Tree, CA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
