"The two-man crew spent about 3+ hours laying the bricks on a prepared surface. They completed the work in a satisfactory manner. I replaced four bricks that were chipped, and leveled out one spot that I thought was low. But they filled in around the lanai with dirt and left the site looking good. They used my tools and materials, which I expected. They at one point agreed to return the next day to put up and anchor a 10x12 foot canopy but did not. However, the company later offered to do this for an extra $300, but we decided to do this ourselves. 
Apex's estimate was much lower than the other two, and in fact the boss called the next day after looking at the project and said that they had reconsidered the price and offered to REDUCE the bid from 1200, even though I had already told them they had come in lowest. Needless to say, were more than happy to have them do a professional job for $800- less than a dollar a brick. And their bid was less than one third of the highest bid we received. Incidentally, the highest bid was from a company that did not even come out to look at the job.
