"Steve was easy to work with. His quote was reasonable and he was able to complete the work shortly after the quote. His team was extremely hard working; they removed the old shingles and felt and totally replaced the roof within one day. They thoroughly cleaned up after themselves."

"I had 4 estimates and 2 involved the Certainteed oakmark pro shingles and one roofer recommended Owens-Corning Duration and the other recommended Malarkey impact resistant shingles. Consumer reports favored the Oakmark shingle over those brands in their testing. The warranties were similar on the Certainteed and Owens-corning shingles with use of higher quality sub-roof materials and installation required for a 50 year warranty. Martinez roofing is a preferred roofer eligible to offer 50 year material warranties for either Certainteed or Owens-Corning shingles. Martinez offered the best price and utilized the same standards of installation, 6 nails per shingle, replacing rubber vents, proper flashing, starter shingles and ice dam guards. Martinez was punctual with estimate the same day I called while other roofers i had to wait several weeks for an estimate. When I decided to select Martinez he came over the same day to have me sign an agreement and no payment was required until work was completed. Martinez indicated he could do the job in 2 weeks or no later than 3 weeks. He called me in 10 days and said he could start the next day at 7 Am. His crew showed up on time and completed the job in one day all done by 4:30 pm with good clean up. The Owner, Juan Martinez sr was up on the roof with crew to make sure proper install was followed. I checked on them frequently and was very satisfied with the job as it progressed and was completed. They installed a couple of extra vents at no extra charge and fixed a gutter for me. I was very satisfied with this roofer. Both Juan Martinez and his son Juan Martinez Jr came out to do the original estimate and both were there to supervise the crew during installation and act as a laison with any concerns I had. .They were very cordial and pleasant to work with from start to finish. The roof looks great !"

"They did a great job. The lead person took lots of time to answer any and all of my questions while going over the estimate and during construction. I was never pressured to make a decision on materials or to hire them for the project. Only took 1-1/2 days for the entire project. They were always courteous and friendly and worked very well together as a team. The finished roof looks really nice. They had huge dropcloths to help catch the old roof material, besides the dumpster, and removed the debris from each area as they finished with it.  The clean up was awesome. Haven't found any stray nails at all. I would definitely recommend them for any roofing needs. <br />"

"Our "only" negative comment about Ground Zero Shelters is that they do not come to a persons residence to give the sales pitch and demonstration. You must go to their showroom or see their product at a home show. This being said, we were extremely happy with the sales experience, reminders and installation of our shelter. They called about 10 days prior to the installation for a reminder, their installers called the day before and the morning of the installation to remind us that they would be at our home at the designated time. They showed up as promised and were completed with the installation in less than 1 1/2 hours time! Thank you Ground Zero!"

"Bob was able to work us into his schedule and do the repair the same day we contacted him. We got the impression he rearranged his schedule to do the job while the weather was still warm for November. Bob stayed in contact to let us know when he would arrive. We did have our own spare siding he used with his tools. He quickly fixed the siding at 6 pm. He was extremely professional and made sure everything fit correctly. Perfection! Really enjoyed our conversations."

"I woke up on Monday this past week to a loud banging noise at around 7:00am in the morning. I looked outside my deck doors and high up near the roof my side shingle had broke loose and was dangling. It was extremely, dangerously high winds close to 50 miles per hour with sleeting snow. My fear is that it would break away and the winds would slam it into the home next to ours possibly damaging their property. I began to pray hoping that I could find a contractor willing to come out to repair it on such a horrible day with the winds, sleeting snow and freezing cold. A few contractors said no but one contractor recommended I call Jimmy's Construction. So I called and sent a picture of the side shingle dangling and Jimmy agreed to come and do the repairs. I was so thankful to God for impressing upon his heart to do the job. When Jimmy arrived he had the replacement side shingle, his tall ladder and the tools needed to remove the dangling shingle and install the new one. I offered to hold the ladder which was so tall due to the extremely high winds and sleeting snow as I was concerned for his safety. So, Jimmy proceeded to do the job and had to remove one glove so that he could hold onto the nails needed to secure the shingle back up near the roof which was very high. When he completed the job his hands were cold and red so he went to his truck for a bit then came inside our home still cold as we got all the info needed to submit payment. Someone had told me at the beginning that I would not find a contractor to come out due to the extreme weather but Jimmy Construction came out, was professional, efficient and kind. Therefore I highly recommend their services and will retain their contact information when we are ready to get our deck finished as you can see some of the work he has done on his FB page. It was an answer to prayer and I'm so thankful for his professional services. ?????"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Kalona, IA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
