"It was not easy to find an expert to remove old gas lamps and cap the natural gas lines. One phone call and quickly scheduled the job and it was done efficiently and quickly. I recommend this group for any gas or plumbing repair."

"Josh helped us install all our plumbing in a new house build. We have an off grid system using a 2500 gallon rain catch system and he seamlessly installed all our plumbing and filtration to operate like a regular house on city water. He also helped us install a gas line for our stove. Josh is a true professional with fair prices and it was a pleasure to work with him. We've already referred him to others and highly recommend him for all your plumbing needs"

"I would recommend Ed’s Plumbing over and over again. We hired Ed to come and run a line from our house to the City line - this consisted of having to go through our driveway and down the yard, and connect through our wall to the house. He was able to make it out quickly to give me a quote. His prices were the best of all the people who came and quoted the job I needed done. He was back to do the job within a reasonable amount of time and his arrival was prompt the morning he said he would be there to work. He updated me throughout the day via phone call, even though we were just inside the home. Him and his partner worked quickly. The job was done in one day and our yard and driveway was left in good condition considering the type of work that was done. He got all approvals and inspections completed by the city without me having to lift a finger. Him and his partner were so kind. 10/10 would recommend Ed’s Plumbing!"

"The young man that came out to my house arrived about an hour I got off the phone with the owner of this business. My waste water piping had 2 leaks the I knew of and he found 2 more after further inspection plus the slope of the drain pipes needing to be corrected. He gave me a verbal estimate for the job and then left for about an hour to get the parts needed to complete the job. Overall, for my job to be completed on a late afternoon during the weekend, I thought the price was fair and the overall work completed was outstanding. I will have them on my call list when needing plumbing work done in the future - heck he even removed the trash from the previously installed piping that was left under my home.?"

"Came when agreed upon. Apprentice plumber showed up and did the work. Did not have all parts needed to complete job (needed flange rings for 2 toilets). When invoiced, tried to charge more than agreed-upon price - said his man had to go get parts. Should have had all needed parts before showing up at the door. Finally agreed to original price. Hopefully the job will last with no problems. Expected a plumber to show up - not an apprentice who was not being supervised."

"He is very fast and efficient.  His rates are exceptional.  I noticed another reviewer stated that he wasn't that friendly, however, I think it is possibly perception based on the fact he is a Yankee!  He has never been rude, but I can see how that sometimes those of us in the south prefer a warm and fuzzy encounter.  He is a top notch plumber, with better than average rates, who goes above and beyond to meet the customers needs. <br />"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Kingsport, TN

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
