"Marcos was friendly and fast, and flexible in scheduling. He and his crew did a great job for us in removing asbestos tiles from our basement flooring so we could have interior drain tiling installed. In the process, they also discovered some mold, which they were able to deal with at the same time. He came with a large crew, so they finished a large job very quickly. The space was well cleaned afterwards, and we received the necessary clearances. Highly recommend."

"Neighborhood Remodelers did a bathroom renovation for us in 2020. Mike Cooper was the project manager. They also replace all of the trim on our second floor fast forward three years later where we replaced our upstairs flooring and came to find out that Neighborhood Remodelers used 3 inch trim and elevated on the wall to act like 5 inch trim. Extremely shady. We also came to find out that they buried an electrical box even though they told us that they wouldn’t do anything like that. extremely disappointed with this company. Please think long and hard before using them."

"Would absolutely work with them again, though I hope I won't need to. Michael was extremely helpful in the entire process of doing asbestos testing on the tile in my new(-to-me) home. Easy to schedule and work with, and he really took the time to answer my questions and make sure I had all of the information I needed. Excellent service."

"This was our second time working with ChiRenovation. A few years ago, they helped with finishing our basement and we were so happy with the results that when we were ready to give our scary porch a face lift into a proper three season room, we got in touch. Ron was our project manager both times and was so patient with two people who wanted lots of options and had a lot of opinions about what would and wouldn’t work. Having someone who can quickly bring in experts when needed, is able to put together estimates, narrow down options and tackle scheduling and coordinating crews takes so much stress out of large-scale renovation projects. For updating the porch, we asked for help with the “heavy lifting” – additional supports, reframing the interior, window replacement, electrical, drywall and interior door and window trims. While we handled the finishing touches (painting, flooring, door installation, siding) once everything was wrapped up and could not be happier with the results. The crews we worked with were a delight. Punctual, very respectful of my working from home (right next to the construction zone to boot), and careful to make sure our dogs didn’t accidentally get out of the yard. In addition to that they were always careful to leave our space tidy and safe when wrapping up work. We are hopefully done with major renovations for a few years but wouldn’t hesitate to work with this group again."

FAQs for toxic lead testing projects in La Grange, IL

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a strong chance it contains lead-based paint. Many pre-1980 houses also contain lead in their plumbing and decorative materials, so age alone is a significant red flag. Older homes near industrial areas face an even higher risk. Because you can’t confirm lead by sight, scheduling a test is the safest way to protect your family.

In older houses, lead can lurk in painted trim, window sashes, soil around the foundation, plumbing pipes, and even vintage hardware. The metal is toxic, and children and pregnant women are most at risk. Exposure can trigger developmental delays, learning problems, and organ damage. Because the EPA links even low levels to serious health effects, test every suspected surface and address any hazards right away.

A positive test means lead is present somewhere you can touch, breathe, or disturb. The next step is a full risk assessment to map exactly where the hazard lies and outline the safest fix: encapsulation, enclosure, or full removal. Repairs start at $1,000 but can exceed $10,000 for complete elimination, so act quickly and hire certified pros to keep your family safe.

EPA lead certification proves that inspectors, risk assessors, and abatement contractors follow federal safety rules under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program. The credential costs an average of $300, and certified professionals can legally test, contain, or remove lead hazards. Hiring a certified pro protects you from fines and ensures the work meets strict health standards.

Lead-based paint looks no different from any other paint, so you can’t identify it by color or sheen. Even flawless walls may hide it. If paint starts chipping, flaking, or peeling, schedule a professional test right away. Only laboratory-grade testing confirms lead and guides the safest fix for your home.
