"Mr. Pineda and his son came to our house and installed the new door and were very professional and made sure everything was correct and properly worked before leaving. I will definitely use them for future work. I plan on using them to build a TV cabinet in the near future. They said they would make one to my specification and match my existing bookcases. Really nice to have such honest people.
"

"This was a fairly big kitchen refurbish job that included Showplace Renew upgrades for part of the kitchen, then new cabinetry to match in some areas of the kitchen that were re-configured. For example, the previous kitchen layout included a large double wall oven and a 42-inch electric drop-in range top. Those appliances were removed and the wall oven location was then re-built to house a tall pantry cabinet. The 42-inch drop in range top was also removed and the cabinetry changed to allow a standard gas range which provided additional cabinet space for the base cabinets and the wall cabinets. New wall cabinets were also added to the end of the island to make the island much larger and provide even more storage space. The china cabinet area included re-finished cabinets with new door frames, drawer fronts, and hardware, as well as glass inserts.
So first of all, I was not totally convinced, at first, that the Showplace Renew process could turn old light oak cabinets from the 1980s into a darker stained, brand new look with an entirely new style for the doors and drawer fronts. But when they started being installed, I was more than satisfied with the final product. The mix of the old renew cabinets with the new cabinets is seamless. It looks like an absolutely brand-new kitchen. The new pantry was fitted into the corner with perfection and everything was professionally trimmed out. The new quartz counter tops are incredibly beautiful and the installation was perfect, including the new under mount sink.
Tony and his crew really did a great job. They are perfectionists, and no detail is too small to address. There were a couple minor items that needed adjusting at the end of the project, and Oscar came right over and took care of everything. We are very pleased with the end result; the cabinetry, counter tops, and hardware are excellent. And the workmanship and attention to detail by the Antix team is highly commendable. Our old beat-up and dated kitchen with the blue formica and the light oak stain cabinets and gold hardware has been fully transformed to a luxury home kitchen that you see on TV, or during the Parade of Homes open houses. Excellent work, great team of craftsmen, fantastic results.
"

"This is my second renovation project with the company. The first was updating my two bath rooms last year. I could not be more pleased with Nu-Tec's work and their employees and I would most definitely hire them again and recommend them to anyone.

They arrive promptly at 8 am every morning and work until at least 4 pm, later if necessary to finish something they are working on. They are very careful to protect the rooms, fixtures and furniture in the path of the project. They recognize that I'm living in the house at night and over the weekend when they are gone, so they leave the work areas as accessible as possible in their absence. They also cleanup their work area in the garage every evening to allow me to put my car inside over night.

Each of the employees hass a great deal of pride in his craftsmanship, which results in a high quality finished project. When removing the microwave to replace the backsplash behind it, they discovered that the exhaust fan was poorly installed. They replaced the ductwork and reinstalled it properly at no additional charge. There were other small improvements outside the scope of the project which they also took care of. Their attention to details ensure a completed project that not only meets expectations, but also exceeds them.

All the employees are very pleasant people who I am totally comfortable having in my house, whether I am home or away.
"

".The price was fair but I expected an exceptional job. There were some minor problems as they got paint on my cloth shower curtain. I didn't notice some imperfections in granite top until a couple of months later . Cabinet door does not fit flush as they replaced hardware. I just noticed these things but have not called them about these problems as the last estimate I got from them was extremely high and I can live with these things. You don't always get what you pay for.
They covered floors but did not cover item in bathroom as they worked. They were neater than some workers but still not as neat as I thought for the money.
"

"Buying and measuring went smoothly and we were pleased with the process.

Installation left a lot to be desired. The installers ripped out my plumbing carelessly and caused a big leak. I tried to keep emptying pails of water while the sink leaked while my husband took off from work to try to find a cap for the line. He couldn't find a cap. While I was bailing water, one of the work man stole my $200 faucet which is only a year old, saying "gee I didn't think you wanted it". Then we did not get all the pieces back for the faucet when I told him I did want my faucet. We agreed to pay the installers to fix our plumbing when they were done, but since pieces were missing they claimed they did not have time to fix the plumbing. They should not have taken my sink parts out to their trucks without asking me if I wanted them! And then they wanted to leave me with a major amount of water flooding my kitchen. I refused to sign off on the job and then finally, after 4 hours of me bailing water and my husband taking off work to try to find a cap, the guy in charge went and got a cap for the water line out of his truck and charged me $10 for it. Why didn't he cap the leak hours before if he had the right piece all along? Is it funny to watch us run around trying to control a flood for hours? What a terrible way to treat a customer. And seriously - I'm spending $2500 and they can't provide a $10 cap to prevent a flood? And they need to use a plastic bag for the pieces they take off my sink, dishwasher, faucet, spray, it just crazy to take the pieces of my plumbing out to their trucks!! I have to replace everything because many parts are gone. It will cost me hundreds of dollars because they were careless with my plumbing parts. They were so busy loading anything they could reuse into their trucks that they never asked me if perhaps I would like to reuse some of my plumbing myself.

My kitchen was left wet and torn apart (drawers out, everything disconnected - even the dishwasher was not secured to cabinets like their work order says they will do. My sink, disposal, faucet, and dishwasher pieces were lost so we can't reconnect them, everything from below the sink is in the middle of the floor, all the electric is now exposed because they don't cut the covers where the back splash comes up to them. My kitchen looks like a war zone.). Have a plumber standing by before these guys come to your house, all they care about is putting in the counter top and they obviously do not care if they leave you flooded and lose your plumbing parts. The counter looks good, but my plumbing is completely destroyed and that was not necessary.
"

"They called me back and we setup an appt. for the following week for them to come out and take a look at what I had. When they arrived, they said they didn't know I wanted to refurbish my cabinets and were expecting to give me a quote to replace them. I really didn't understand as I did mention I didn't want to spend the higher cost of replacing them on the initial call, but nonetheless, we setup another appt. a week later to have someone else they work with from Juarez come out and take a look at them. When the rep. from their affiliate in Juarez came out a week later, he performed measurements and showed examples of his work. They said they would get back to me with an estimate. A week or so later, CSS called me back and wanted to send another person out to take a look and measure. At this point, I told them I was going with someone else. Seemed to be somewhat disorganized and not understanding what I was really looking for, but all they reps. were very personable.

Member update: I have to disagree that I was not clear in my initial phone call. I specifically stated the owner of the home, my friend, wanted re-facing or re-furbishing as he already had quotes elsewhere for new cabinets and he did not want to spend that much money. Cabinet re-facing/re-furbishing was the listing I searched under Angie's List, and CSS Construction was displayed under this category. I agree I was not there during your first appt. with my friend, but I was there the second time when you accompanied your sub-contractor from Juarez. Lastly, requesting the second appt. after going thru one already just seemed to us to be a waste of time. I am sorry, but I stand by what I wrote."

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in La-mesa, NM

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
