"I would describe Lonnie as skilled and trustworthy. From the start he gave us an accurate timeline and was straightforward with when he would be able to start the project which was a few months out. He kept us informed of progress and returned calls/texts the same day. The final cost of the project was only slightly above the quoted price. The difference being the need to install the sewage pump versus extending the sewage line. As with any old home, there are likely to be issues meeting the current building codes. Lonnie always addressed these issues immediately with the building inspector to find an acceptable solution rather than moving forward and hoping the inspector wouldn't catch it or guessing at a solution that would be acceptable to the inspector. Lonnie was also willing to work with us so we were able to do some of the work to lower costs: trim work, painting, and installing ship-lap. We will certainly be working with Raven Builders for any other projects."

"I contacted Hamlen in fall of 2016 - too late to get deck work done. I kept in contact with the owner (Trevor) and he was able to do the work in June 2017. He gave us options, recommendations, and probable reasons we had continuing problems with the previous deck finish. The cost was reasonable and the results are impressive. I had forgotten what our deck could look like - it's beautiful again. By the way, Hamlen was the third contractor I've contacted in as many years trying to get this work done. The owner was the only contractor to consistently return our calls or emails, and meet with us personally. Excellent all around."

"He replaced a rotten piece of wood on a large window. He also used his superior knowledge to insulate under the window before replacing with new wood. He lacquered the wood and cut it it a perfect match. He did a beautiful job! A new window would have been many thousands of dollars. I am delighted he had the knowledge and confidence to tackle this project. He was extremely punctual and professional. I would consider him a woodworker for other projects in the future. <br />"

"In all of my encounters with Dustin, he was very professional, friendly, and easy to get hold of.  He was always punctual, showed up on time, and when he said he would.  When he was on the job, he was always working, and never loitered.  He finished on time, on budget, and was up front about what was necessary to do, and tried to save me money where he could.  He was very accommodating to my very curious daughter, and after he replaced the garage door, he was even kind enough to have the new knob rekeyed so I would not have to do it.  I also had a few baseboards that I needed to install from an unfinished personal project, and he did that for me at no charge. <br />      When you hire Dustin, he is the person that will be on site doing the work, and so if you have any concerns or issues, he will <br /> be there to answer.  This was the first time I had to hire a contractor, and was nervous about it.  However, Dustin really did a great job, and in fact I have hired him to do some more work.  I would highly recommend him. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"He was very friendly and knowledgeable.  We even went to Lowes to discuss further bathroom options for the remodel for my client.  We were supposed to receive an email after Thanksgiving with an estimate for the remodel.  I didn't get an estimate so I texted and asked when we should expect it.  No response.  I texted again a few days later saying we needed the estimate by Monday as we were going to gather other estimates as well.  Again, no response.  Not even a text saying he was too busy to take on the job or anything.  I really liked Ken but the lack of response was really troubling to my client and myself as well.  I'm sure he does great work if you can get a hold of him. <br />"

FAQs for handyman service projects in Lake City, MN

Winterizing shields your home’s structure and key systems from snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. By sealing drafts and tuning up heaters, you cut energy waste, extend the life of appliances and windows, and avoid surprise repair bills. A small up-front investment keeps rooms cozy and protects the value of your biggest asset all winter long.

Yes, it’s important to prepare your sprinkler system for the winter. Blowing out the lines and insulating above-ground parts keeps valves and pipes from splitting when temperatures drop. A quick winterization visit costs far less than repairing burst components in spring, and it ensures your lawn--and your wallet--stay in good shape once the thaw hits.

A full home winterization plan goes beyond sealing windows and pipes. You might schedule a home energy audit, cover outdoor furniture, service the snowblower, swap smoke-detector batteries, add outlet gaskets, and hang storm doors. Each step beefs up your home’s protection, cuts drafts, and lowers the chance of costly cold-weather damage.
